As a habitual button pusher on both shows, there's just no way W+S talked as much out of town NBA as B+G did.

This is Chicago. For the most part, nobody cares about the NBA playoffs unless the Bulls are involved. NFL chatter is year round. You are in the minority with your NBA love and interest. I'm not saying that is bad, but its a fact.

Yesterday's show was not 90+% Odell Beckham talk. From what I have read on here, there have been MANY B&G and B&B shows where out of town NBA talk has been the main subject.

No one can seem to answer the question as to why Waddle and Silvy's ratings aren't effected by it then

you dismissed an obvious point made by MANY. W+S' talent and content when discussing OOT NBA was more compelling than B&G. Given their talent at making OOT NBA talk interesting they'll continue to do so. However, M&P are better at discussing other topics than OOT NBA like OOT NFL.

It's not really hard. There was no point in creating this thread.

So Your point is that it is about the hosts and not about show content? I agree.

it's both. OOT NBA talk isn't interesting for many people who tune into AM radio. So you need hosts who are both interested in OOT NBA and skilled at creating interesting to listen content.

I never once referenced race or Goff being canned. I wasn't a Goff fan.

My point is that for a long time all i've read on here is that basketball, specifically out of town basketball talk was bad for the show. No one wants to talk out of town sports. Ok if that is the case then why the acceptance of off season Odell Beckham talk?

My point is that people on here that complain about basketball are those that don't like basketball. Out of town caveat is simply a smokescreen.
They also make baseless claims since it doesn't seem to have effected W&S much at all.

One segment on a premier player means too much out of town football? That's a bit of a reach. It's also more about how it was presented on the show. NBA basketball is good. College is bad, and if you enjoy it then you are a stupid/bad fan. If you are not watching regular season NBA you are an idiot.

Tone trumped the content. There was a need to make the audience feel stupid if sports are not consumed in the same matter as the hosts.

I agree about the tone of the show. I stopped listening to the Score because i tired of non stop football talk.

It became repetitive and rather boring to be honest. Without knowing the names of the people i can pretty put a finger on the guys that will be the target of Bears fans ire each and every season.

It will invariably be whomever the Head Coach, OC, DC, Or QB happens to be. Phone Call after the phone call all saying the same thing. This guy is terrible and when are they going to fire him? Throw in the GM and Owner and you've run the gamut. That is the extent of what passes for Bears talk. Nothing scintillating about that particularly during the offseason.

love NFL and NBA. I play fantasy basketball daily and follow all out of town NBA. But if we're talking about listening to NFL talk vs NBA, NFL talk wins by far. It's just more interesting.

They should be talking about 70% baseball right now, 20% Loyola hoops, and 10% other.

People are more interested in moves the Browns made than the NBA playoff race

The people in Cleveland aren't concerned about the Browns. ESPN has based their entire network around Lebron James. How is that for interest.

Off Season NFL talk isn't more interesting than the current NBA. If that's the case then why are the ratings declining?

Its not about NFL versus NBA though its understandable that comprehension is difficult for some.

There is no way that more people are concerned more with an off season sport than an in season sport with both being considered major sports.

As far as this message board goes we shouldn't use this as the gauge for anyone's level of interest. After all by far the most popular thread on here involves an update person that possesses the lowest profile and stroke of anyone at the station.

There is no such thing as a playoff race in the NBA. If anything, it's teams trying to lose to get out of a playoff position to avoid NBA Hell.

Super teams and tanking have turned the NBA into an absolute joke of a sport.

ESPN is losing ~2-3 million subscribers per year and politics isn't the driving force behind that.

You are presenting your opinions as facts. You are an NBA guy. That's fine.

Offseason NFL chatter is going to draw more interest in Chicago than current NBA chatter right now. You don't have to like that, but it is a fact.

what nba playoff race? more than half the league makes the playoffs. and then 75% of that cohort will get swept or lose in 5 games.

That is a misnomer. There isn't one team currently in playoff contention that happens to be tanking. In the West there are 10 teams fighting for 8 spots. There are 2-3 games separating seeds 3-10.

As far as Superteams go the NFL has them too. We've been watching Tom Brady for about 15 years now.

I don't like the Superteam concept but the Ratings were the highest in 18 years for an NBA finals last season.

This year's playoffs may be up for grabs but i really don't care about stuff being predetermined as long as i get a chance to see the best of the best square off.

The NBA is the one league of the major 3 that gives you that. When you get down to the Final Four you invariably get the best 4 teams barring injury. Conf. Imbalance has been a concern but the pendulum with that is shifting.

Again its not really about NFL vs NBA. Its about in season vs out of season interest.

The buzz for the NFL is not greater than the NBA this time of year. Nowhere near.

Doesn't the same thing occur in the NFL? Aren't they up to 16 teams for the playoffs?

This is not a correct statement. In the Chicago radio market, there is virtually no NBA buzz unless the Bulls are in the playoffs.

 Or you could gauge it by acknowledging that the NBA heavy radio show-- which no longer exists-- was consistently losing in the ratings to a show that talked much more about the NFL.

They have no problem talking out of town sports when it is a sport they like. You always attempted to make it about out of town NBA. it isn't about out of town NBA at all. Its about NBA period. I'm quite sure i've listened to the Score longer than you have.

I listened during the Championship years and they really didn't talk much Bulls then relative to local interest level.

HFC used to always claim that the Bulls fans weren't Bulls fans as much as they Were MJ fans. Fallaciously claimed that the Bulls fans would run away once Jordan walked. Stadium has been sold out for the 20 years since Jordan bounced. Even during lean years people still came out.

That was the excuse they used for not wanting to discuss basketball.
