Why would i listen when the talk is bad? I used to listen to sports talk radio a lot and i frankly stopped listening because of stupid shit like OBJ in March.

Basketball talk in of itself isn't a panacea. It still has to be good. There discussions were not.

I watch TV and read the internet for my basketball information. I find that they are simply better at it.
Well, there is a lot of good football talk across multiple shows that gets me to listen. Maybe that explains why football gets talked about more than basketball.

Again not in the offseason. McNeil is going to run a football centric show up until the start of the season if you are fine with that so be it. I love basketball but i would never want to discuss it non stop when games aren't played. The brief period in July i.e. free agency summer league. Once that is over i'm disinterested for the most part.

Football should never supersede Hoops or Baseball during this time of year.

Yes it should if the local team is a shitshow presided over by a grade A moron. Do you really want local hosts to break down the upcoming battle between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Utah Jazz? Not exactly compelling radio. A rumor involving one of the most explosive WRs in the game possibly coming to Chicago just ahead of the draft (which is another compelling topic this time of the year) is absolutely appropriate radio this time of the year. In fact you almost have to talk about that because the Bulls don't provide anything to talk about because they suck.

I never got social conscious basketball talk when i listened to them. If they thought they were being progressive by discussing basketball it might have been relative to previous radio shows. They'd be right. The only full time guy that ever had an inkling about basketball was Terry Boers. Van Lier but he wasn't on that long. North didn't really know shit. Jiggetts, Murphy, Mac, nope.

I'm referencing the old time guys. In that respect they were an upgrade but its mostly the tallest midget award.

Now you're hitting the real issue. It's really not so much race as it is age. You and I are old guys. We're the listener. bernstein and Goff tried to gear a show to younger people who are probably less inclined to be listening to terrestrial radio.

Thanks for coming around to the point that was made 14 pages ago.

I also think the "average NBA fan age" thing is kind of overblown. It's the same stuff we hear about soccer and now lacrosse how the younger generations have given up on certain sports and have flocked to others.

No, in the offseason too is fine for NFL talk. There is a reason that I listen to sports radio and you don't and I have as shows have come and gone and you have never found a show that does "good" NBA talk.

McNeil doesn't do any NBA talk. I still listen at times to sports radio. i call the shows also. I don't listen as much as i used to. I obviously had to listen in order to start the thread. I obviously have had to listen in order to know the workings of guys like McNeil and Bernstein.

As far as listening goes i'm fairly certain that i have listened to more of the score in my lifetime than you have.

Its dumb to merely discuss this in terms of the current landscape when they are essentially using the same hosts.

McNeil isn't reinventing himself here. He will pump out the same show that he has pumped out for the better part of 25 years. Same shtick.

If the people on here think they are a reflection of the city they aren't. The two most popular shows in terms of ratings, (M&H and W&S) are 2 of the lightest in terms of traffic on this forum. They go weeks on end without anyone posting in them.

People here think they have a pulse of what this city wants? Then why are the two most popular shows shows that aren't representative of what they'd like in terms of sportstalk?

For years all i've read on here is how no one wants a straight sports show. We want the goofiness that B&B provides. We love our Mac and his guy gambling and porn talk. Just love that stuff.

Well why are the two most popular shows in the city shows that are devoid of all that stuff? Remember when everyone here believed that this sort of thing was PTFB?

Those shows are dominated by guys that have the personality of a potted plant yet they have enjoyed success nonetheless.

The thoughts of guys on here in regards to this sort of thing are indicative of nothing since they frequently get it wrong.

Your thoughts seem inconsistent here. You keep claiming you stopped listening to sports radio because of too much football talk but you now claim that you still listen?

Once again, I'll make the same point. I think many people in Chicago have talked football well on the radio. You won't say any show in Chicago is good at NBA talk. That points to the problem not being the hosts but simply NBA talk on local radio just isn't interesting.

Liberal use of "matures" when it happens around retirement age.

I know you like it literal when it serves your purpose and you use inference when it doesn't i will simply say i don't listen as much as i used to.

If you are trying to present the fallacious you don't know what you are talking about argument because you don't listen save it. I listen from time to time and i listen enough to speak on everyone that i have referenced. Everyone.

Ok, so you listen.

Why is it that no one is good at talking NBA in Chicago? There are many people in Chicago who are good at talking NFL. Even a guy who worked on a SIRIUS NBA show wasn't good enough at it to get you to listen. Guys who have covered the Bulls aren't good at it. Parkins, a guy who was and still is a huge Bulls fan isn't good at it.

It points to NBA basketball on sports radio just not being interesting.

The people on this forum you included aren't the best when comes to gauging interest of sports fans. You have frequently gotten this stuff wrong. You clung to a failing show and argued with everyone that begged to differ. That show was eventually cancelled with the surviving host demoted and yet you still think you know where that pulse lay.
You are the champion of misguided sportshow thoughts.

 Three responses to the same post.

I didn't cling to anything about B&G. I didn't think it was a great show and I complained about it a lot. It was better than the competition just like Mac and Parkins is.

Is there a quota?

As evidenced by the fact that it was cancelled.

Anyways, now that you claim to listen to Silvy and Waddle, and claim they are good at NBA talk, then I can't wait to read your thoughts on the things they are talking about in the numerous W&S threads! You, Terry's Peeps and Frank can have a budding friendship!

Anyways, now that you claim to listen to Silvy and Waddle, and claim they are good at NBA talk, then I can't wait to read your thoughts on the things they are talking about in the numerous W&S threads! You, Terry's Peeps and Frank can have a budding friendship!

I love you all.

I didn't cling to anything about B&G. I didn't think it was a great show and I complained about it a lot. It was better than the competition just like Mac and Parkins is.

Is there a quota?

As evidenced by the fact that it was cancelled.
It needed to be reworked or cancelled.

I was a fan of the two but the NBA talk, and other things, got me to not listen a lot.

The fact that I still liked the show isn't helping your case here.

I'm getting really confused now. I can't figure out if ltg is sad or happy that Jason was fired.

They need to hire a former Bear to talk NBA basketball since Tom Waddle has proven to be very good at it.

You clung to a failing show argued with everyone that begged to differ. That show was eventually cancelled with the surviving host demoted.

The show failed and the host was demoted, in part, because they talked too much damn NBA!

Yet Waddle and Silvy talk basketballl and it doesn't effect anything. Even have weekly guests whose sole purpose is to talk National NBA.

Again this board is indicative of nothing and the whole "that's the bottom line because favored poster x said so" mantra should have died along with the wrestling career of Stone Cold Steve Austin.

As i said before most of the people that comment on this frewuently get it wrong.

They pined for the return of a guy that arguably mailed it in 10 years ago. Ponder that for a second. I read the comments from another site which addressed the firing of BG and not comment spoke of too much NBA.

If Ratings are such the be all end all then why is there rarely any traffic in the 2 sections of shows with the highest ratings? Shouldn't the traffic in those threads correlate with what's posted here?

Oh yeah i forgot this is the place where guys get off on the perverted, emotionally masterbating form of radio engagement known as "hate listening".

Yeah this is the joint where i intend to extract my cues.

Waddle and Silvy are good at it.

Carmen and Silvy were much better at it.

I agree. Carmen is vanilla but he knows his shit. I loved his pre and post game shows on 1000. They were the best at talking basketball and its no accident that they had the most provocative interview this city has seen in years.

I am an almost daily listener of W&S. They talk very little national NBA. There will be segments and bits and pieces here and there, but they talk FAR more NFL than they do NBA. They talk a lot of Bulls in season. They talk NFL almost daily. I would say that less than 20% of their show content is nation NBA regular season talk.

See above. You are wrong. My "Credentials" are listening to Silvy for years. I go back as far as the Save The Music Saturdays and Canadian Inmate or NHL Player days.

Just a few posts ago, you said that you don't listen as much as you used to because of the NFL talk. In the same post, you said that you still listen and call "all the shows." Which is it? Do you not listen or do you hate listen?

You need to extract something, that's for sure.

From the guy who chases a poster all over the board for the purpose of dismissing any thought that he happens to express. Prior to this you chased the owner of this site in similar fashion. Now you are not only an expert on what people wish to hear you are a guru on whats bothersome.

Now aint that just rich
