I’m a little too young to remember Garry Shandling’s standup days and television shows but I heard about this documentary recently. Judd Apatow directed it and it’s excellent. Just excellent. 4 hours. Best to break it up into 2 nights.

The Larry Sanders Show is one of the best comedies of all time. I'll have to watch this.

HBO. If you don’t have HBO, maybe Youtube search “Garry Shandling” and then search results for most resent uploads. Enjoy.

i was probably too young for some of the humor but i always liked watching it on FOX, along with tracy ullman. "the larry sanders show" was fantastic too.

With today being another rainout for me I might try to work on part two today.

I watched it on fox as well and it was my early teen years. I wonder how many I actually watched because I remember thinking it disappeared rather quickly from the air but there were 72 episodes. Of course that was pushing by 30 years ago so things do get blurred.

Hadn’t realized that he chose to shut the show down either.

This is the theme to Garry's Show,
The theme to Garry's show.
Garry called me up and asked if I would write his theme song.
I'm almost halfway finished,
How do you like it so far,
How do you like the theme to Garry's Show.

My eyes are getting weary
My back is getting tight
I'm sitting here in traffic on the Queensborough bridge tonight
But, I don't care 'cause all I want to do...
is cash my check and drive right home to you
'cause Baby, all my life
I will be driving home to you

But he also destroyed Ricky Gervais.

The episode on "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" with him was right before he died. Apparently, he was quite loved in the comic circle.

I feel like this documentary did its best to excuse his bitchy, crazy behavior though.

Gervais credits Larry Sanders with inspiring Gervais' The Office. I first thought Shandling was doing a bit, giving Gervais so much grief in that extended interview thing. Pretty clear by the end Shandling couldn't stand being on the same continent as Gervais.

Gervais new stand-up thing on Netflix, Humanity, good stuff.

Gervais hosting the Golden Globes this year of Harvey et al would've been something.

Shandling was quite the whiny, diva bitch it would seem.

Started this yesterday and I think I am pretty close to finishing the first part. Garry just ust got a chance to host the Tonight Show.
I have enjoyed it for the most part. I can kind of see where Seinfeld got some of his schtick from Garry. I guess I find it
most interesting that he kept diaries for all those years. Probably pretty important for showbiz types and especially comics
always thinking of new ways to deliver material. I have tried journals over the years and after about a week I have given
it all up. My life isn't all that interesting and I don't really enjoy beating myself up over and over in print.

You would rather the members of this board do it for you?

Well I guess some people get their shots in on me when I deserve and leave myself open to it. I suppose what I was referencing is that he
really kind of beats himself up at times, at least when he was still learning his trade. Obviously a lot of his humor was self deprecating
so it is interesting to me that a person that was so hard on themselves and repeatedly just wanted to be happy and content, was his own
worst critic. I guess a lot of us are like that at different times in our lives.
