Before it became the political meltdown of the day, it was more of a criticism of corporate conglomerates buying up and controlling local news. That is and has been troubling for many years.

That's my other thought. One group should not be able to dictate what to say on several local stations. The news shouldn't be controlled.

Considerably. They require affiliates to air conservative editorials during local news. John Oliver did a story on this last summer.

Yeah, it's a huge problem. We've been insulated from it in Market #3 because all our stations are O&Os but I can imagine it really warps reality elsewhere.

Why do you hate the free market?

I don't mind the message. I do think that it should have been an editorial read by preferably the corporate chairman, or at least the station manager. I am old enough to remember when all the local news channels here ran editorials. Mary Laney used to do Channel 5's, and I think at one point Andy Shaw might have read the ones for Channel 7.
When local anchors read editorials, it should be their opinion, not their manager's opinion.

And some of us are old enough to remember Len O'Connor.

Editorials are good, but they shouldn't be read by anchors. Budgets carved out editorial partners years ago.

Not here but as CH said in most of America it's still the number one source of news.

How is this different than the apple and the banana? It's political because the people who are whining about it don't like Sinclair. If Stetler or Todd read the same statement they'd be cheering. Don't @ me, Baby.

The above is factually true.

Personally, I don't care what Sinclair is doing as the rest of the mainstream media is decidedly biased one way so it simply doesn't bother me if another segment of the media wishes to be biased the other way. Both sides are full of shit and completely unreliable when it comes to reporting the truth. There is a reason I've more or less turned to BBC World for my TV news.

I'm sure the irony of the above paragraph is not lost on you.

John Oliver is the king of lying by omission, look no further than his report on the mythical gender pay gap

But John Oliver isn't news, it's the Daily Show with Family Guy jokes.

But didnt you appeal to the journalistic authority of Oliver and his "story"? Seems to me if you're going to do that you should also consider bias.

It's editorial masquerading as "comedy".

He's not the first person to bring up Sinclair's conservative bias, just the most prominent. I'm sure one could also scour boards like ours across other markets and find people grousing about Sinclair directives.

35 years ago, the fcc with it's settled regulations wouldn't allow a burgeoning oligopoly like this. Something you would applaud, until you became the Man. And cynically greedy I guess.

The Clash would be disgusted

They weren't on TV every night in a suit behind a desk that looks like Walter Cronkite's.

I'm not applauding anything. I'm just pointing out the selective outrage.

There's a fair argument that too much of our comedy is a facsimile of newscasts: Weekend Update, The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight, Seth Meyers, and the show where Samantha Bee stands in front of a TV and craps her pants about Bernie Sanders.

But the way you roll now, you would doubt Cronkite if he wasn't sufficiently obsequious to your bestie trump.

Since I can remember comedians have always talked about politics. I've still considered them comedians.

One of the things I wish Jon Stewart hadn't done was perfect that motte-and-bailey where he'd talk about how important his show is to the discourse and indeed have serious interviews on the show but then retreat to "it's just a comedy show on a comedy channel" under any criticism.

He and Colbert leaving got us President Trump. Loved both shows. They were still comedians but they kinda did news too and that should have been okay.

And Roger Stone and apologists for your little orange buddy love to talk about how they were joking. Retroactively.

And you accept it here..

Not really. You and I like to bullshit but they doesn't take anything away from our serious thoughts. They're human. I thought Colbert was primarily comedy but I thought Jon Stewart was a funnier version of Bill Maher.
