That's my other thought. One group should not be able to dictate what to say on several local stations. The news shouldn't be controlled.

I don't mind the message. I do think that it should have been an editorial read by preferably the corporate chairman, or at least the station manager. I am old enough to remember when all the local news channels here ran editorials. Mary Laney used to do Channel 5's, and I think at one point Andy Shaw might have read the ones for Channel 7.
When local anchors read editorials, it should be their opinion, not their manager's opinion.

One of the things I wish Jon Stewart hadn't done was perfect that motte-and-bailey where he'd talk about how important his show is to the discourse and indeed have serious interviews on the show but then retreat to "it's just a comedy show on a comedy channel" under any criticism.

He and Colbert leaving got us President Trump. Loved both shows. They were still comedians but they kinda did news too and that should have been okay.
