I tend to agree with you but I can’t envision the Bulls not re-signing him. He was the “biggest piece” in the Butler trade.

Jimmy Butler wasn't even the Bulls' biggest piece in his own draft year. In 2012, Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli were drafted by the Warriors before Draymond Green.

Some team will offer him a lot of money as a RFA. You just walk away, knowing you will have that money for a more effective player.

And what player would that be? You should just let assets walk away given the long history of free agent success the Bulls have had?

Given your thoughts on Dunn's potential this is a rough take.

LeBron James. Kevin Durant. Paul George. Klay Thompson. Devin Booker. Kawhi Leonard. Any of those guys are free agents within the next couple of seasons. Feeling like you have to sign a guy is exactly how you start giving out brutal contracts. Ask the Mavericks how their Harrison Barnes contract is working out. Don't give one-dimensional, third option players max deals.

There is zero chance on Lebron and Durant. Paul George is a fringe all-star. Booker scores a ton on a bad team. Neither are major upgrades, and there is little in our history that says they would choose to come here.

Kawhi is a person to perhaps build a team around, but he has had some injury trouble as of late, which raises red flags. Why would he sign here unless the team had players to surround him with? I'll give you Markkanen, but if the only other piece is Dunn why would he choose the Bulls?

It would be the third time since the end of the dynasty that the plan will be clear cap space and hope. If you could not get anyone here with Derrick Rose and Noah as a core, why would Markkanen and Dunn lure free agents?

Of the 3 primary ways to build a contender free agency is the least desirable.

1. Draft well

2. Trade well

3. Sign Free agents.

Waiting on game changing free agents isn't the best way to build a contender that is why tanking was so desirable.

Paul George is an All-Star. Zach Lavine is not an All-Star. Zach Lavine couldn't even score a lot on a bad team. He scored some in Minnesota because defenses solely could worry about KAT and Wiggins and win.

The Bulls organization is stupid. They probably will match a max offer to Lavine. They've already screwed up this tank year. Most free agents probably do recognize that and will pass the Bulls up. So stay at the salary floor until you draft enough good players worth signing to extensions.

DON'T be the Thunder and sign Ibaka instead of making sure you have money for Harden.

Bulls are a joke, glad I temporarily switched my NBA allegiance to the Lakers and whatever team drafts Trae Young.

So, still the Bulls.

He's an all-star, but not a win a title because of player. And there is zero chance he signs here. LA or stays in OKC. And Harden was already on the OKC roster. Who is the Harden on this roster we have to trade away to sign Lavine?

Are you playing dumb? If you think Paul George is a fringe all-star, why would you be okay paying Zack Lavine "Paul George type money" when you admit he is a worse player?

That Harden might not be on the roster yet. It might be Lauri. It doesn't matter. You don't pay Lavine max money since it prevents the Bulls from getting players that actually turns them into a competitive team.

Why do you want this rebuild to result in another perennial 7-8 seed team?

Tank until you have the players to win. Don't give up after a year and chase 43 wins.
