"The government that governs best governs least" comes to mind, to play devil's advocate. That said, yeah. People just want to be left the hell alone, which I appreciate, but I think we're proving more and more every week that we don't deserve the privilege of freely purchasing/trading/etc weapons of a certain type.



A car is designed to drive from place to place very quickly. It can become a weapon via circumstance, but it's design wasn't based around killing something.

Guns, on the other hand, particularly assault rifles, are designed to end lives. We re-contextualize that under the premise of hunting or target practice, but there is a line with weapons that needs to be drawn. If some guy has an AR15 in his gun vault at home, he owns it because he wants to. He may be a responsible individual, but his neglected, shitty son knows only one purpose for that weapon, and he'll use it for it's intended purpose if given the opportunity.

Hypothetically, anyway.

I appreciate the citizen's perspective of government Taking Away of Things™, but there has to be a two way road here. There has to be trust. I know the mere concept of a people trusting its government is hilarious to some, but it wasn't always so unheard of. Maybe I'm naive, but I do believe we are capable of a reckoning in our values that could lead us to a society where we're relatively cool with our laws and our representatives and those same laws and representatives aren't out to fuck the people. As of now, we are all sure that we're getting fucked, and the representatives/bulk of the laws are quite happy to fuck us from the shadows.

For those who permanently and perpetually stockpile munitions like John Matrix in Commando, stuffing shopping carts and vehicles full of absurd weaponry, all because they need to hoard it before the inevitable Government Takeover, I feel kind of sorry for that mindset. To constantly live with that paranoia and sense of dread about the people in power must suck. Ironically these same people wear American Flag-coated clothing and military decor more than any other demographic.

They also keep Fox Racing and Monster Energy in business, but that's another subject.

Ideally it wouldn't, but even the most basic attempts at gun control are fought hard against such as a company deciding they want to stop selling to people under 21 and many people celebrate those who are fighting the noble fight to let a 19 year old walk into a Dick's and purchase a gun.

The idea of a slippery slope used to have some kind of merit, but at this rate? People who are in the "I want guns" lane are entrenched. Any movement toward any change is fascism, and only incentivizes their core to get more weapons and spread more rhetoric.

Nothing is reasonable. There can be no middle ground, and that's unfortunate.



You don't see members of NAMBLA driving into crowds of counter-protestors. If there was a vaguely worded federal amendment about fucking 7 year olds, I highly doubt people would get this full-frothed over it because we know it's a fucked up, depraved thing to fight for.

Why we don't think it's fucked up that 100 people a day on average die of getting shot, all because "It's mah raght to own a gun," is beyond me.
