After six hours with my new Otolaryngolgy team, here's the news: Gratefully, I'm cancer free, emphysema free. The flip side is I have a paralyzed right vocal cord.

The larynx was injected with a collagen gel, designed to separate the two cords. Recovery time varies. I will do all in my power to expedite the process.

The timing couldn't be worse. And I haven't been this excited to open a mic since the morning after "17 Seconds" in Boston in '13.

We will reboot McNeil & Parkins on 670 The Score as soon as possible. Meanwhile, I will be writing columns for the site and trying to be a good teammate, promoting all of our shows via social media.

So sorry. Thank you Danny Parkins, Nick Shepkowski, Chris Tannehill, Mark Grote, George Ofman and my management team for your humanity.

Doesn't it make the most sense to put Spiegs in that spot until Mac is ready? I know he'd have to swallow his pride but it would be best for his image and his chance of getting back on the station in a permanent role. Let's face it- Spiegel and Parkins was a much better show than Bernstein and Goff anyways.

I'd leave Grote there. Then again, I wanted Grote as a permanent member of the show as that was the only decent reason to take him off of Cubs coverage.

Grote and Parkins seem to do well together, and Grote would give Mac the ability to work a reduced schedule during non-Bears parts of the year.

The ironic thing would be if Mac has to go onto long-term disability for this.

I doubt they'd have called Goff or Spiegs back anyway, but it would be amusing if they (Goff especially) burned their chance with the social media posts.

Sounds about right. My cousin had something similar but caused by a tumor pressing on a nerve. After the chemo ended and the tumor was gone, it took his voice 6 months to come back to about 90%, but his system was compromised.

The use of "reboot" makes it sound as though it will be an extended absence.

What you guys miss is DeCastro knew Mac was ill. Had to get B&G out before Cubs start and slant ratings.

Shrewd move. Mac will be back in a while and Goff is toast. Bernsie has been played.
