I liked Pacino as Phil Spector in that other HBO movie.

Good flick. Follows the week after the story broke and he was fired. Makes Joe Pa out to be so Uber obsessed with football he couldn’t be bothered with the allegations. That was someone else’s job.

Penn State looks like a bunch of fucking ass clowns.

Pacino was solid. Good cast.

Who plays Dan Bernstein, who was of course instrumental in Paterno's dismissal?

Watched it. Not very good.

I didn't appreciate the opening scene being PSU beating Illinois but that wasn't why I thought it was bad. Nathan Scheelhaase got a shoutout though.

It was 2 hours of nothing. No insight, no revelations. I guess if you'd never heard of Jerry Sandusky and all of it, it might be sort of interesting. But, I don't think they even explained that very well. Focusing on Paterno was kind of a one-note movie. You knew everything you needed to know from the first scene of him in the box upstairs.

Ha, I remember when Bernstein was mentioned nationally as, "a Chicago talk host" at the pinnacle of this whole affair. That whole thing was the end of my listening to the show. I mean, every show was his personal Joe Paterno hate-fuck fest.

I have no interest in watching the movie, but in the end the guy was an iconic coach no matter what he did to hide Sandusky.

I figured it would be bad. But I still want to catch it. I'm fascinated with Pacino playing real people. He's done it a lot in his older years. I'll just laugh at him every time I see him. So even though this is a serious movie, it will be a comedy for me during Pacino's scenes. Like you said, we all know the story anyway.

There would be no revelations. Everything on this is public record. Bernstein told the story to me.

Don't bother, Beardown. It's not even worth an ironic viewing.

It's really a black hole of television.

Although I was disturbed by how fat Greg Grunberg had gotten. I hope for his sake that was extra padding. It looked it.

I disagree. I think it provided more context to the situation. Maybe it’s difficult to care after dealing with the non stop coverage at the time, but it was worth a watch. Thought how they portrayed his own family as disgusted by the way he handled everything was interesting too.

Also, any movie that can make an Illinois football game dramatic has to be given some credit.

I agree that the family dynamic was interesting. Greg Grunberg was the best part. I don't know which kid he played. Scott?

Overall, I just thought it was a mess.

I just watched this. When they rolled the text at the end explaining what happened to all the principals, e.g. "Jerry Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child rape, Sara Ganim won the Pulitzer Prize", etc, I kept waiting for, "Dan Bernstein was demoted to middays."

Saw it, immediately after having watching it, I had to pull up this gem (probably the last time B&B were good)

I watched it on Sunday when it was freezing and there was nothing else to do. I enjoyed the movie, and I always like Pacino. What I liked about is that in the end, it presented the case that if Joe did not explicitly see anything, there were enough warning signs that he should have turned this guy into the police, not Penn State. And I think the film handled that well, e.g., when he reviewed his handwritten notes on Sandusky’s retirement papers.

Similar to this: a guy I know cheats on his wife. I think she knows. She’s just decided to ignore it to keep the family together and live a comfortable lifestyle.

Joe knew. He chose to ignore it, much to his (and worse, all the kids that were abused) demise.

Just watched this yesterday and wish I would have read all the reviews here. I didn't think it was horrible but I really didn't learn much in the
way of anything new or interesting by watching it. I thought they made Pacino look pretty close to Paterno and watching some of the family
dynamics behind the scenes brought some insight if true I guess. It just didn't evoke any emotion from me at all. Very blandly done. I thought
the acting by Pacino was pretty good but whenever he had to get animated he got into that "yelly" kind of Pacino which he did well in movies
like Heat and Scent Of A Woman. Almost like he was coming out of character.
