Geesh, and I was the biggest cheerleader for that line of thinking. Disappointed big time at this outing.

His K/BB ratio was terrible regardless of Coors. Monte should have got the #5 starter job.

Yes. He was good in his first start and really didn't pitch badly today. The Pirates hit the ball well. A lot of disciplined hitting, with guys going opposite field and not trying to do too much. Plus, some defensive lapses, like Haap allowing a fly ball to drop and score 2 runs, that should have been caught. Chatwood will be good. Not fine, good.

I think I see some good stuff in Chatwood. At least he's not Brett Andersen.

But Eddie Butler might be better.

Well, hopefully those opponents get worse at hitting so poor Tyler can be better at pitching.

5th starter. 5 ER over 5 innings not very good, but could be much worse.

They struck gold with Eddie Butler. You can expect that to happen twice.

Small sample size
He has until his early 30's to get better.
Win loss doesn't matter
Saving the bullpen

The less innings he pitches, the greater his value to the team

In his first start he gave up just one run. The Pirates have some real good hitters. Credit where it is due.

Eddie Butler has looked really good too, but he and Montgomery are just .......break glass in case of emergency guys.

at 1000x the price

The most dangerous thing an owner can do is give Theo a checkbook during free agency.

Lester, Darvish, Zobrist, Morrow, Duensing, Cishek, Jay, Lackey, Cahill, Hammel

Good far outweighs the bad. Heyward, Jackson, Stewart

You really want to do a full analysis on those? I guess you can trump card and say they won a world series and that justifies everything.

Not to mention one Heyward is worth ten Duensings when you are performing your balance of good and bad

Also, Morrow and Darvish are 11 games into the season but if you want to play your little games, Darvish hasn't been a good signing two whole games into his Cub career.

That's a good comment. Many focused solely on his road record and E.R.A. . Nice work, Bob.

This statement seems to suggest all other GM's are better. Do you believe that?

Has it cost Theo? Did the Red Sox fall off the map during his tenure or right after?

I agree, free agency is his weak spot compared to the genius level drafting and trading, just think you're overstating it a bit.

Why else do you sign free agents then to win the World Series? Isn't that why they play the games?

I love how you say Heyward is next level bad, but then say Moncada is not "horrible" in another thread. Moncada has 28K's in 45AB's  and hitting .200. with 1hr. Heyward plays much better D, less strikeouts and hitting twenty points higher.

Hahn or Theo as GM? Who would you want leading your rebuild?

So you agree with me.

He got out of town in a monkey suit one step ahead of the posse in Boston. The next GM (I believe Cherrington) paid the price for Theo's mistakes (apologists like to say Theo was forced to spend money). Theo himself, on his very first day as a Cub just after he walked on water admitted to the flaw.

Since Theo left Boston, they have won a WS, been to two ALDS..and won 90 games 3 times....Theo left them with the likes of Boegarts, Betts and Bradley Jr...studs still in their prime.

Yeah he sure left Boston in shambles. There really is no filter to all the bad baseball thoughts Good Dolphin spits out, huh?

You do realize they had a teardown before that and we are specifically talking about his work in free agency.

This reply makes no sense at all.

Boston won a WS two years after he left.

Ill ask again, do you believe Theo is worse than all other GM's in signing free agents?

"Teardown"

They made one trade.

Anyway, you dont like GM's who win multiple World Series in different organizations. It's fine. I dont like grape soda.

Hey Rick, this discussion is simply about Theo's free agent work in which you have already conceded the point. Why are you still talking?
