Longtime radio host. His Coast to Coast show dealt with conspiracy theories, aliens, demonic possessions, etc. Used to hold the midnight to 4am shift on 890am until Red Eye Radio replaced it.

Used to listen to him when I worked midnights.

I remember a posse of chupacabra hunters calling in from South Texas one night. They were out looking for the creatures armed with weapons.

Art Bell must have told them to "BE. CAREFUL." a dozen times.

It was the perfect show for that time of night. There was something to be said for working late, driving home and listening to it. It made sense at that time.

I use to work graveyard shift on a job back in the late 90s and found him on radio. I liked the show because I thought I was the only one with these conspiracy thoughts about history and the current state of affairs. It was neat to learn I was not the only one that thought that way.

Working overnight as the insecure security guard at the Newberry Library, when I wasn't in the office, curled up in a ball and sleeping, I'd listen to Art Bell and it would scare the liver out of me.

He had a rough life. The reason he quit was his teenage son was kidnapped by his school teacher , locked in chains and dragged to some location in the desert and sexually molested. The teacher had HIV and the son contracted it. The teacher got life, but I dont know what happened to Art's son. Hope he is still around but I heard he had gone thru many suicide attempts.

He remarried and had 2 younger kids at an old age.

That asshole George Noory who is like the Jay Leno of radio still doesn't have anything about Bell's passing on the C2C website. I guess it was one of those old guard vs new guard things as those 2 never got along.

I discovered Art Bell after going into a YouTube black hole of Terrence McKenna interviews. From then on, I’d pull up YouTube on occasion and pick a random Coast to Coast show when I couldn’t sleep.

All I’ll say is it wasn’t the right show to listen to at 2am in the middle of a field while doing field work.

On the other hand it was a hoot to listen to while driving cross country.

I probably don't believe in like 97% of the shit on that show but its still scary at times. And if I don't believe it in, most of the time it comes off as a good story or entertaining. Con men/women can be good storytellers too you know.

His brother Archie and his Drells were much cooler.

how long til they get a medium type individual to dial up Art on the after-life-line:

From somewhere inside the pearly gates, caller, you're on the air.

"That asshole George Noory who is like the Jay Leno of radio still doesn't have anything about Bell's passing on the C2C website. I guess it was one of those old guard vs new guard things as those 2 never got along."

Perfectly summed up. Noory is a hack.

we would go visit my granparents in buffalo ny for holidays. we'd leave after school on some day and drive through the night. since i can remember i'm not a good sleeper unless its in a bed so i would stay up wiht my father and we'd listen to coast to coast. from the late 80's into the 90's.

some of the best art bell i remember :

john titor - guy would call in and claim he was a time traveler.
jon lear - son of the guy who invented the lear jet. was a cia test pilot claimed he had regular interactions with aliens. moon was a soul factory and you could see the buildings with a telescope.

my uncle who lived in remote kodiak island AK for 6 mo of the year (counted fish for dept of fish and game) would listen to coast to coast am in the middle of the wilderness. it got dark around 10:30-11 and we'd just sit and listen when we visited. it was awesome.

George changed the format of the show in Art's opinion. Art was more alien, gvt, secret society, military base, off grid, global apocalypse, and like origins. George noory allowed the ghost and spiritual paranormal people onto the show and art HATED it. he thought all that stuff was BS funny enough.
