So Ive known a family on the block where I live for about 3 years. They moved out here and have 2 kids. They seemed to have a good family life and I use to play catch with their kids who were both around 5 and 7 years old.

So just the other day I saw the wife and started talking to her and she said that the husband left the family.

I'm like what do you mean left the family? She's said he moved back to Oregon or something and left.

So anyone of you experience this? Maybe your dads did this to you or you had to leave?

I'm trying to wrap my head around it. As a Man, how the hell do you leave your family responsibilities especially when having 2 young children? I can get if you have a bad marriage and want to get a divorce, but just pack up and leave?

Help me understand this.

My father left the world. I've seen it happen about 5 years back. A neighbor liked to play around and apparently the wife got tired of it and he left or she put him out. He still was there every morning to pick up his son for school and he still fathered her daughter that wasn't his. Good guy but he just wasn't a 1 woman man.

Both white.

She is skinny, regular.

She works part time as a secretary.

He was more of a blue collar guy. I think he worked as a gym teacher and did some Uber driving on the side.

Things happen and men and women cannot make it work as a family.

The thing that I have never been able to comprehend is the guys who never have anything to do with their kids. I cannot wrap my mind around that at all.

My wifes biological father has never been a part of her life. Her mom divorced him while my wife was an infant. They lived in the same area for my wifes entire childhood yet he never made any effort to be around her. On her 21st birthday she got a birthday card from her father (the first one she had ever received) and it had a $1 in it.

Just blows my mind.

$1?

Was that a genuine gift or was he trying to be a dick?

I dont really know. Either way it is pathetic.

A couple years back he send my wife a facebook friend request. Never show any interest in her and then want to be facebook friends.

What's worse is men who leave their families to sit alone in garages during thunderstorms.

The problem with your sentence is an actual "man" doesn't do that sort of thing.

 My guy tells me his family encourages those trips to the garage.

i was thinking about that, maybe cost of living was too much? but it happens everywhere in the country so i dont think it's that. even if it's cost of living, then you just dont get up and bail! You do something about it. like Move.

I think most of the adults here have been thru being the sole bread winner, raising kids, paying mortgage/rent, and all the other adult responsibilities and I don't think anyone here has just got up and left. Or how about the single mom working 2-3 jobs a day to feed her kids.

Don't understand it.

I don't get it, either. That should be one of the damn commandments. I know some parents are better gone because they are abusive in a number of ways, but still, to abandon your children....

So I ran into the mother tonight. She's got make up on and all dolled up. I guess she's already looking for a man. Damn that was fast. Guy must have made sure he's not coming back.

She said the husband or whatever he is now is sending payments to support the kids. But there is no legal agreement. I hate to tell her.

My wife's father ran off when she was 7. Left a wife and 5 great kids. They never heard from him again. After the dawn of the internet era they learned he remarried, had a kid and then eventually hanged himself.

Who knows why people do what they do?

Agreed, but a bad father sure makes it hard on everyone else.

Another religious norm that has no use now.

my best friends dad decided one day in highschool that he was done with the quad cities and moved to st louis. he was a successful foot doctor. sold his practice without anyone knowing and moved. told his wife she could come with the kids if she wanted otherwise bye.

my buddy was a sr in high school and his sister was in jr high.

they didn't move. and didn't get a divorce for like 10 years. he paid for everything up here for them during that time. but he just lived in st louis. never came back up really. they would always visit him there. I just didnt' understand it then and don't understand it now.

both of the kids really struggled through it for a while and he didn't really care. i still think they struggle through it a lot.

in HS i would say of my 10 closest friends only 1 of them had parents that were still married. and in at least 3 of them one of the spouses just left. 2 of them were mothers.

I don't know about sanctity, but our society would be much better off if adults took marriage more seriously. Too many go into it thinking if it doesnt work i will get a divorce. That thinking has harmed many families and kids.

There are too many reasons to list for cause of divorce...none of which are that simple. It's a maturity thing way more than it is about taking it seriously. Divorce rate is high because marriage and parenting is really difficult and most enter that responsibility without the required maturity. Divorce sucks, but a miserable marriage with unhappy / unhealthy parents is usually far more damaging.

Not sure about this case, HawaiiYou....I've encountered far too many Deadbeat Dad scenarios in my life. All of them are based on a husband / Father who got divorced by their wife and their ego never got over it. I've never encountered someone that just said "I'm out" and packed up and left. Regardless....that's really sad.

I agree. I am not faulting people from getting a divorce. Marriage and parenting is really hard. Just think we could avoid some of that if people took things more serious on tje front end.
