I have Wednesday. Predicting 40 and rain. Another set of tickets down the drain.

I had Saturday. I can't believe they played that stupid game.

Agreed, and then to cancel Sunday makes no sense. Neither day was 'nice', but Sunday was the better of the two.

Absolutely a good decision not to play in this stinking winter weather.

The smart voices around baseball have been pounding the point that the season should start later and in domed or fair weather cities and what does MLB do? They start the season EARLIER and schedule tons of games in Chicago, Boston, Pittsburg, etc.

Could it be any clearer that MLB doesn't give a fuck for the quality of the game or the comfort of the fans?

Starting later makes sense, but that means less money for the people making it. Money typically wins out over common sense.

Best solution seems to be having more division games early. That way, there are multiple chances to make up a game or 2 later in the season. With the Braves coming to Chicago one time all season AND scheduling that for April 13-15, is dumb.

Interesting tidbit caught on my way in earlier from Bernsie.

League wide game starting time temps below 40 degrees has already surpassed any other complete season. This has been one shitty April.

Yep, why not schedule the Cubs in Atlanta for April?

Agree that these early season home games should be against teams they play multiple times in the season.

1) don't start the season in March
2) front-load the season in warm-weather/domed locations as much as possible
3) to the extent that you have to play in cold-weather locations, make those divisional games for easier makeup

SHOULDN'T BE HARD

Heard on Kaps’s show that so far this April has been 4th coldest in Chicago since they started keeping records .

Speaking for #2 - I wouldn't want my season to be front-loaded with home games. Summer/school's out is when I sell the most tickets.

my dad told me MLB used to have regularly scheduled weekend double-headers. why not get those back in the mix to lop off 10 april games?

If you front load the schedule with warm weather locations, that means its back-loaded the opposite. So, when the races are tight at the end of the season, teams in cold weather locations have an advantage because they have more home games.

ESPN would have to allow games to be played in their Sunday night window. They let the Rangers play Sunday night games because it's too hot to play in the afternoon but that's it. But one Sunday day-night doubleheader a month would open up six helpful offdays.

Don't lop off games at all! 162 has been the number for 50+ years. I'm tired of sports fans demanding fewer games.

i meant avoid playing the games in april b/c they'd be played in the may-september as a double-header

speaking of the BFIB, remember circa 2004 there was another threatened work stoppage that went down to the final hours before being resolved? well that was right before a fri-sun cards@cubs series where i had tickets to that friday game that woulda been the first one cancelled after the potential work stoppage.

evidently, many cubs fans were spooked into thinking it was 1994 all over again and didn't bother to show up, meanwhile the BFIBs still came up by the busloads and they managed to overrun the cubs fans at wrigley field to such an extent that when they did the 7th inning stretch it was 90%+ "root root root for the CARDINALS!!!!!" and i was just like ron simmons' catchphrase if you know what i'm saying.

You'd be better off doing it on Friday, or Saturday. Sunday is getaway day for MANY teams.

I'd be OK with 154, but 162 is fine as well. I'm sure in the 50s and 60s there were games played in the cold and the players didn't even have ski masks to wear.

I have said it before and find it incredible the Ricketts family is not putting a retractable roof over the new park, and make no mistake, it is a new park, it just looks very much the same. Too late now though. Huge mistake.

No, what is dumb is having players and their fans exposed to the cold temperatures, rain..... and wind to go with the cold and rain, to combine for conditions that create an environment that is unlikely to produce good baseball. But more likely to produce injuries. Also, an environment that results in the postponement of games. It's not just stupid for many games in April and early May, but even more importantly, for the Playoff games in October and maybe November. Not talking about a dome, but a retractable roof that allows fans to enjoy the sunshine and baseball as it should ideally be played. But also allows the players and fans to enjoy games in suitable conditions, even when inclement weather rolls in.

Wrigley Field was built between 1911 and 1913. It opened for baseball in 1914.

Sure the same. Except for the lights, renovated bleachers, new video boards, the batter's eye in center, new dugouts, new clubhouses, new advertising signs, new bullpens, added seats near home plate. But yeah other than that, Wrigley looks the exact same as it did 20, 30, 40 years ago...

it is dumb but it's a reality. The weather sucked but they've played in much worse conditions. MLB scheduled this suckfest...they should live with it.

Maybe the players union should take this up as their next pissing match.

Rain tomorrow... we might only get 1 game in this series. Assuming they play tonight.
