Why do we advocate for the shaming of [actual] bigots? Flat earthers? Anti-vaxxers? Religious extremists? There is no formal mechanism by which the government could or should remove or limit these dangerous ideologies, but the shaming and ridicule is an informal mechanism meant to keep those things in check.
