BIG Bump again.

Before tonight's game, Javy's OBP was 0.342 and an OPS of 0.890 .... terrible player.

I admitted I was wrong last year on my “Baez sucks” stance but you’re a stronger man than I hoffy. Hold your ground. Don’t let these guys bully you into their groupthink.

He's fun to watch and he's hot now. But he's always gonna go through long slumps with that swing.

But with his defense and base running he's still a valuable player with a .250 average and .310 OBP. He'll get you 30 HRs if he plays every day.

He hit over .270 last season and looks like he's getting a bit more disciplined at the plate. He has all the tools to be a top player, if he has plate discipline. He sure is fun to watch. Aggressive base running, makes plays on defense with the glove and the arm many others could only dream of making, hits, hits for power and plays fearless. Fan favorite for good reason.

I don't blame you guys for your beliefs when you have myth writers like Gordon Witenmeyer shaping your opinions. I was told just this morning that he has turned a corner.

He's Shawon Dunston 2.0. I'm cool with that. I loved Shawon Dunston.

It's pretty uncanny.

With a way better glove.

And yea we'll take it, crazy to think how he was almost forgotten about or given up on during the rebuild

Agreed. Same arm and range.

Dunston had equal range to Javy? Is there some stat to quantify this?

Dunston's arm was crazy strong.

Athletic as hell.

But overall defensively Javy is way better.

Eyesight? He covered ground.

I'd say Baez is better but Dunston was very good. Not a knock to Baez. I think he's incredible.

Javy is better defensively and has more power in his bat.

OK. I guess I should clarify. Yes, Javy is a far better defensive player.

I was just speaking in terms of athleticism in the field in the middle infield (arm, range) and their all or nothing plate approach.

Don Kessinger was the best infielder I ever watched.

He had what Jack called a "boardinghouse reach*".

Also, better athlete than both Dunston and Baez:
A four sport All-State and All-America athlete for the Forrest City High School Mustangs, Kessinger graduated high school in 1960 and went on to the University of Mississippi.[3] During his collegiate years, he earned All-Conference, All-SEC, and All-America honors in both basketball and baseball for the Rebels, and was initiated into the Sigma Nu fraternity.[4] Kessinger also played for the Peoria Pacers, of the Central Illinois Collegiate League (a summer league for collegiate players) in its founding year, 1963.[5] He was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent on June 19, 1964.[1] Kessinger was assigned to play for the Double-A Fort Worth Cats before making his major league debut on September 7, 1964.[1][6]

*English[edit]. Etymology[edit]. So called because the lodgers at a boardinghouse, dining at the same time, might have to reach past each other for dishes and condiments.

RFDC,
Did you ever watch Kessinger? I think you are too young.

I did. He was not a better athlete than either of them.

He was a better player than Dunston and odds are good Baez but not a better athlete.

I didnt see him play, but looking at his offensive stats he would have had to be a Hall of fame defensive guy to be considered a better overall player than Dunston

He was just a "singles" hitter but he could go to his right like nobody I ever seen. He was considered one of the best SS of his era. I agree,Dunston had more punch in his bat.

Dunston was a singles hitter who never walked and had a shitty OBP. He was mediocre as a fielder. His cannon arm saved him as many embarrassing errors as it caused. His greatest accomplishment was being slightly better than a nearly dead Larry Bowa. If he wasn't a Cub early on with Ryne Sandberg making him look good you'd never remember his name. When he captured one fifth of one percent of the HOF vote it was twice what was deserved. Honestly the only thing memorable about him was a bunch of drunken idiots posting his awful batting average on cheap posterboard in the outfield.
