The obsession with bunting and the running game seems deeply organizational rather than simply a style backed by Renteria. I think it dates back to the "Go Go Sox" or maybe even as far as the "Hitless Wonders". When the Sox had truly great offensive teams in the early 2000s I know many Sox fans who actually complained that they "hit too many home runs."
