Edmunds feels like a very "Pace" pick. Athletic, versatile prospect who has a world of potential. I don't really know if I like Edmunds right now, but I haven't seen anything on his tape that says, "top 10 game changer." Then again, I'm not anything even remotely close to a football evaluator beyond whatever measurables can move the average dope.

I'd personally be very cool with Vita Vea or Fitzpatrick. Both of those guys seem like studs who could help a franchise. Fitzpatrick is a bit of conundrum since he's sort of a honey badger type, position-less guy who you need to find a way to use, but the ability to bust up an offense is invaluable in my eyes.

In a perfect world, I suppose, the Bears trade down and recoup a few picks, perhaps even getting some ammunition for 2019, but I don't see Pace doing that since he's only ever traded up in round one.

Gabriel this morning on M&H seemed to view Edmunds as a ILB; seems to be a little tall to project there. Definitely would be a project; perhaps having him more as the contain/run-stopping OLB while letting Floyd concentrate on pass-rushing would be good, but not at #8.

I don't really like Edmunds, but I'd try to see the bright side if he went at 8. He feels like a massive project, as you said. I'm of the mind you take Fitzpatrick or Vea or ideally you trade down, but I'm bracing myself to be thoroughly annoyed for Pace to take Ridley or Smith.

Minus an injury scenario -there's more value in Ridley or Smith at 8 than there is in Fitzpatrick. I'd be more annoyed at making a nickel back/tweener a top-10 selection than those 1st two.

Both Ridley and Fitzpatrick have 'boom or bust' type potential, but Ridleys upside combined with need at the position outweigh Fitzpatrick's potential impact for the Bears imo. Smith seems like a safe pick out of the 3, with solid immediate impact potential.

Meh, I'm really hoping the Bears can trade down a bit and gain some picks. It's a decently deep draft for the 1st 3 rounds, but it's also not a 'can't miss prospect' drast at the top either.

I don't see any bust factor in Fitzpatrick.

Ridley is not even considered the top WR anymore.

A tweener taken in the top-10 who might not have a true position at the next level who's measurables aren't off the charts (at least according to the scouting reports I've read)?

I see it.

As for Ridley -that may be true, but the poster I quoted mentioned him, and it's a position the Bears are more in need of than the positions Fitzpatrick may play. Not only that, but if you hit on Ridley and (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is legit there is far more upside to that than Fitzpatrick being good. At least in my opinion. And that's also a reason for me bringing it up from a value standpoint too.

what do you mean by tweener with Fitzpatrick.

His height/weight ratio is certainly within the range of a pro free safety. His 40 time is a shade below elite but still in the upper level of good. I haven't seen a measureable that doesn't qualify him for full time free safety.

Most scouts I've read/listened to have said it's unclear whether or not he'll be a Saftey or DB at the next level. Most don't think he has the speed to be a top flight corner and others have said his body type/skill set may not be right for the punishment/assignments the SS position requires. He could be a FS I spose, but the Bears are good there for now so I don't see him being a good fit here for that.

He's a bit of a project in that sense, which is another thing I don't think the Bears should be investing in that high in the draft.

That’s the exact opposite of everything I’ve read about Whitehair. The consensus has been that’s he is marginal at guard but pro-bowl caliber at center.

It will be damn near impossible for Pace to fuck up 8 this year..He will most certainly fuck up a 13th or 14th pick this year.. I don't trust him.. I agree in principle about getting more picks but we don't have that guy to make it work.

He's no tweener.. He's a solid corner, free-strong safety week one..very versatile.

I go Nelson, Chubb, Fitz. They need a staple with this pick. I'll take the extremely high floor over everything else at this point. Guard be damned.

if they draft a fucking Guard at 8, then Pace needs to swim near the breakwater.

I can not control what you read but the bears drafted him to play guard. He was shifted to center out of emergency. He stuck there as they found competent guards but couldn’t develop another center. I’ll have to re read his draft analysis but I’m fairly certain it said he could play throughout the line however he was the best guard in the draft

I'm trying to think of what pick would genuinely piss me off should he stay at 8, and there's not one that comes to mind. Thursday's going to be goddamn bonkers, all around.

I would like a trade up for Barkley. It looks like he could fall to 6 or possibly 7.

Tampa will take him at 7, I'm almost certain of it. Colts could probably be persuaded.

The issue is compensation will be an elusive thing to pin down. How do the Bears move up? Do they throw Howard in? That'd make the most sense, but Howard is worth a lot more than a couple slots (even in the top 10).

As far as I see it there are 3 options:

1) Trade Howard and 1.8
-Use Howard as the oomph that gets you up 2 spots. Recoup the excess value of Howard by stockpiling picks later in the draft. The Colts have THREE 2nd round picks. Get at least one of those and its not a bad deal.

2) Trade Howard and keep 1.8
There is really only one way to do this one and you gotta wonder how bold their trade partner would have to be to accept. It would have to be Howard + next year's first. That's the only offer someone might accept, and for the Colts it does make sense as they are in a wait-and-see holding pattern on Luck. There should be less uncertainty this time next year regarding his situation, so if you're the Colts stockpiling assets another year does make sense. If the Bears suck again (pretty likely, even if they do add Barkley) it would be a huge blow. But if they finish .500 or better its fine, make the playoffs and its a steal. Nelson + Barkley would be IDEAL.

3) Keep Howard and trade 1.8
Obviously this means trading up and losing 1.8 in the process. The Bears would be boasting an unmatched amount of runningback talent, and they'd be able to do some interesting matchup things with Barkley and Howard both in the same huddle. You'd expect injury concerns to be alleviated too with the smaller workload, but random snaps and tears are just as much as a threat as wearing down. The big downside here is the Bears do nothing to help the defense or offensive line, though Barkley would probably count as a boon to the receiving threat. To me this is the most interesting option, though unless it is some watershed moment in the NFL metagame the potential for it to succeed is fairly limited (especially compared to the ultimate boom or bust outlined in scenario 2).

I thought he could do no wrong last year too and then he unnecessarily gave up draft picks to move up. Fool me once...

Drafting a safety would piss me off pretty good. We are set at FS with Jackson. Amos is decent and strong safeties are pretty easy to find. Same for Fitzpatrick..jack of all trades, master of none.

Trading Howard would look pretty lousy of Pace and the Bears, considering Howard told the press recently that the team assured him they had no plans to trade him, he's been featured a lot in their media packages for the 2018 season, and Nagy agreed that Howard would be the featured back.

If Pace suddenly trades Howard after all that, it would be some slimy, backhanded shit. Is Pace above doing it? No way.

Sure they can. Amos is entering a contract year and Amukamara is no sure thing. The team is thirsting for turnover generators and it so happens that the 8th pick has DBs that equate to that value. It sucks, but it is what it is.

No way.

I wouldn't plan on trading him either until I was certain I could draft an elite RB.

You cannot consider your current roster when drafting someone as high as 8. Get a great player.

Matt Forte would have been great for this offense
