Denzel Ward, CB, OSU

We spent a lot of time in advance of last year's draft discussing the qualities of OSU DB Lattimore and Hood. Lattimore certainly justified the attention and Hood did as well before he was hurt. The only question was whether a team could justify drafting a DB at 3. Now we are presented with a player many consider to be Lattimore's equal of superior. We are further down in the draft where the position is much more justifiable.

Oh no, but what about Prince Amukamara? Get bent. I'll take the rather large upgrade at a premium position.

Boom! Steak Dinner. There it is.

Vita Vea, DT, Washington

I can find the bright side of Smith, Edmunds, Fitzpatrick, and Ward, but Vea is himself a top-10 value and difference maker. This is assuming Nelson and Chubb won't be there at 8 as well as assuming the Bears don't trade down.

Goldman's availability has been in question, and while he's a good-to-great player, the line needs bolstered. Never doubt investing in the trenches. Fitzpatrick would be a great weapon, but I don't really know where you'd use him right away beyond special teams. Ward is an outstanding choice as well who'd instantly up the quality of the DB group. Isiah Oliver is another guy who would be ideally snagged in a trade down.

As for me at 8, I'd take the angry man out of Washington.

I want Nelson, then Minka, otherwise trade down to at least 15 and get best defensive player available. If they trade down, they need a bunch of high-floor guys to solidify positions and set them up for next off-season's FA class.

Marcus Davenport or Harold Landry(would have to be a trade down). Maybe Edmunds if Fangio is convinced he can use him as an edge rusher on 3rd down. The NFL is about fucking up the opposing QB and keeping yours upright. I wouldn't object to Nelson but I'm still trying to get past taking a guard that high.

Really hard to disagree here. Or if somehow Fitzpatrick falls to the Bear.

If Lamar Jackson's still on the board at 8, Belichick trade up to draft their QB of the phooture? Patriots have two 1st round and two 2nd round picks this year to deal. Tampa Bay likely takes him at 7, but if Derwin James from Florida State is still on the board, he's the best defensive player in this year's draft.

Agreed. He should have started another gun control thread instead. We need more of those.

Well in just about any thread you can expect an “add significantly more guns to schools” or something similar.

I'd probably trade (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and a two to get Josh Rosen.

Edit: if I could beat the Jets to him

Sticking with Ridley, but wouldn't mind a trade down to get him. Need a playmaker on the outside in the worst way.

Having watched a decent amount of important college football games last season I don't see how the Bears could go wrong with Quentin Nelson, Roquan Smith, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Denzel Ward, or Derwin James in that order if they stay at 8.

I heard a clip of Pace today saying there are 8 guys they feel comfortable with drafting first. I think they trade down to 12 with the Bills. No idea who they take.

How could the Bears draft a defensive player with the first pick after bringing in Nagy and drafting (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky last year? They essentially have the 3rd pick in the draft and I would be shocked if they didn't take an offensive player.

The only player with a solid value at 8 would be a guard. The rest are players on defense. I don't see Ridley going that high, or any other receiver. If the Bears trade down maybe they could get Sutton or Kirk, but that's a big if presently. The top of the draft is defense and the Bears are at the top of the draft. Plus they've really done very little on defense during free agency, so there's a need.

I want Saquon Barkley to fall and the Bears trade up to get him.

If that doesn't happen Minkah Fitzpatrick if he is available

If he is not then.... Roquan Smith

I want no part of drafting Nelson at G or Ridley and WR.

No WR worth the #8 pick.
Do you think they should draft Barkely and move Howard?
1 offensive lineman worth the #8 pick.

That's how.

Woah, hey now, you said Bears spent very little in free agency on defense. Just pointing out that they indeed invest in the defense via free agency. Locked down 2 starting positions out of 11 with $80M contracts.

Ah, okay, I jumped the gun by thinking you were one of those still angry/frothing over the Kyle Fuller contract.

My mistake, sir.

If I was Nagy, devoting a ton of resources to defense(your weakness) would actually be the smart play. In theory, the offense should always be a strength given his coaching background. If Trestman had a defense in 2013, they go to the playoffs, probably deep into the playoffs.

From what I can gather, there are four A+ non-QB prospects in this draft:

Barkley
Chubb
Nelson
Fitzpatrick

Barkley and Chubb are likely to be gone when the #8 overall pick rolls around.

My guy is Fitzpatrick, but I wouldn’t be mad if they drafted Nelson.
