Yep.

It was fun radio.

Parkins deserves a gift certificate from Joe's for all of the free-pub he just gave them on air.

My kids do have birthdays coming up.....

They'll definitely take regifted gift cards.

it was a very entertaining listen.

I've been married a second time....kinda been there. We threw basically a hoe-down...no registry. Total event cost is under $2k. Every single gift we received I felt was gravy and not necessary. The party we threw was to get our friends together and get drunk.

That being said, if you're going to re-gift....it has to somewhat not appear like a re-gift.

Spiegel a douche for caring about his gifts.
Spiegel a douche for having a third wedding. Here's a clue....elope.
Parkins a douche for giving something that just screams "I could give a fuck about you".
Parkins gets a second douche for not just manning up and saying "yeah, probably tacky. " FFS...just own it.

i wasn't aware of all the gourmands on the board who look down upon joe's stone crab. it's no alinea but sheesh, who knew a joe's $200 gift card is equivalent to a gift card to long john silver's.

I didn't realize he was talking about Joe's Stone Crab and not Joe's Crab Shack. He said "Joe's...the place with...the crabs" and I guessed wrong.

Which of course makes Spiegs even more of a douche

By the way, maybe you can explain this, as a Polish man. My wife's family spends money like water on each other. Her parents would go broke giving gifts to people for various things. And they consider anyone who doesn't do the same thing to be "cheap." Would you say that's a Polish thing or are they just unique?

My MIL is this way and she loves to let everybody know what she spent. If somebody out spends her she gets mad and holds a grudge.

I regift all the time. All. THE. TIME.

Restaurant cards are inappropriate for a wedding.

Spiegel sounded like a douche on the phone but I imagine it was hard for him to hang up.

Parkins’ gotta save up more gift cards for Spiegel’s fourth wedding in 2020.

Bernstein to Parkins in transition: "Where were you raised?"

I guess he thinks Parkins is as "ill-bred" as Derrick Rose.

I have to check my chart but I'm pretty sure Glencoe outranks Deerfield.

Not sure if there are different gift cards specific to Joe's but it is part of the Lettuce Entertain You franchise and the gift cards I've had cover all of their restaurants....which includes a number of above average choices including fine dining (Everest).

At least Parkins didn't give him the bonus $25 cards (with a bunch of exclusions and limitations) that you get when you spend $100 in gift cards at Lettuce Entertain You. Now THAT would have been cheap.

Yes but not as wrong as Spiegel.

Spiegel sucks in general, but they called him and asked him to come on and discuss the gift with the context already being that it was cheap. what should he have said?

Almost nobody knows what the hell they are talking about in this thread.

Danny came off as cheap and Spiegel came off as whiny. I think most reasonable people agree with that. But I really don't think there's any animosity there, and I don't think Spiegel dislikes Parkins or resents him too much. I think they genuinely like eachother now. It's just that Spiegs is a weirdo and can't do proper ball busting without coming off like an overemotional asshole. But I think the intent was friendly banter/shit talking, not like tense, uncomfortable, confrontational radio.

Spiegel fucking hates Mac now though, which is hilarious. That Scioscia comment at the end was transparent as hell.

Tune in next week when a three-sheets Spiegs calls Connor McKnight at 9:45 in the morning to tell him all the ways he's wronged him, then realizes he meant to call Nick Shepkowski.

If there is a radio god he will ensure Spiegs calls in drunk at some point in the near future. That would be an all time great call.

well he called into Hit & Run a few weeks ago under a fake name and Rozner just busted his balls after it reached a pathetic point.

Fine. You guys have convinced me.

There are no winners here. Both did wrong.

But I think Spiegel is more of a bag in this spot.

I didn't hear the call, but I asked Parko about it yesterday. He told me neither is mad at the other. In fact, they're talking about their next dinner date.

Park didn't "re-gift" anything! Those gift cards are payments for services rendered. An appearance earns a card for $50. And Sports Talk Live gives 'em to several restaurants. You know how far $50 goes at RPM or Harry Caray's? Depending on one's commute, the commitment to do STL is about 90 minutes. In other words, Park worked about 6 hours for Spiegel's wedding gift.

Would I do it? Likely not... but I don't find it offensive. Spiegel knows that show can pain your ass and his former partner donated FOUR appearances for a gift.

As others have, a gift card is just an inherently tacky wedding gift. It makes it worse if the couple getting married knows where you got it from.

You once set someone’s house on fire with a frozen pizza.
