Now that being said those fuckin ecm communicating induced are expensive as hell. From the supply house they're over 800 bucks.

I'm just amazed that they think they can get away with it. With the internet and what not you can look up the price of parts. Ok, so a shop isn't going to bargain hunt on every part so maybe the $150 motor is $225. Unless it's the entire day to replace it(at that point just get a new furnace)where does that equal $1500? how dumb do they think people are?

Labor unions (especially public sector) are useless, but trade unions really don't bother me.

I'm sure you've had a lot of these experiences with non-union shops, but not all non-union shops are shit, my shop offers 100% health insurance for my workers and their families, and with competitive pay. I'm sure there are other non-union shops doing the same. Especially considering that there are a lot of companies with a limited amount of workers.

I have about 10-20 young people walk into my shop every year looking for a job, but they just come in off the street without a resume and all of them are causally dressed. I think the problem lies in the lack of job seeking preparation at the high school level.

The biggest problem with the HVAC industry is that most workers who are worth anything usually just end up starting their own business out of their garage. That's why you have a million companies and no workers. It is hard to keep good people even at a competitive pay and benefits when they think that they can make so much more.

I guess it wasn't aimed at you per se. Just the overall thought that trades are a choice for many or gonna some how fix the unemployment in the younger generation.

1. its Difficult as hell to get into a union.
2. Labor Intensive as hell. Your gonna break down physically.
3. Its a different generation. Many are not interested in the trades. If the person is not interested in it why do we assume they are going to be good enough to make a living at it.

I can also attest to the fact that people I know who got into unions celebrate it like they just won the lottery and on the other hand many bitch about not being able to get in.

So, Im a little skeptical that one can just go to a trade school, graduate, and walk right into the union of their choice and start working.


I do think more kids should go into trades and less to college, though.
