There you go. One other thing I do not know not having followed closely. Is it normal for charges to be filed and a victim to testify after they already settled civilly for 3.5 million? That did not seem to add up as I always thought the money usually bought silence.

as a matter of law, there's no mechanism for individuals to "buy their way out of" criminal charges via large dollar amount settlements etc. it's the State bringing charges against the malfeasant defendant/Cosby on behalf of the victim. The victim's willingness to proceed with the charges and testify favorably to the State's case is an important part of the State's case--but it's entirely possible to have criminal charges brought and prosecuted with minimal involvement from the victim. And the victim's acceptance of a large dollar amount civil settlement has no impact on the victim being able to speak up in court--and that's likely true of civil proceedings for 3rd parties as well as their own criminal complaint against the defendant. basically, it's almost impossible to prevent someone from testifying in court by way of a civil settlement/NDA. As long as the court subpoeanas the testimony, it's getting heard.

the only thing the civil settlement protects the defendant/payor of the settlement from is another civil proceeding arising out of the facts/incident underlying the settlement and brought by that particular victim.
