Absolutely not. It is merely to mock those who think the league's progressive nature ("woke") grants it some special place in the hierarchy of professional sports leagues, and fandom of which vicariously grants some amount of progressive coinage as well. Judging by the pearl clutching of NBA sycophants in this thread, it is working as intended.

This kind of "I don't know what it is, but it is probably horribly racist" bullshit is dangerous. Fuck you for even mentioning it.

Read your first paragraph again. Now name one poster that bullshit applies to here. You can’t.

Don’t be an idiot.

Once again the tone deaf buffoon speaks to something that virtually no one has ever referenced in an attempt to push his own right wing (euphemism) bullshit.

I don't think anyone on this board has ever saluted the NBA for being "progressive". If they have I may have missed it. Very few if any ever even discuss the damn politics of the NBA. I know I don't as I don't really care about that.

I like JLN for the most part. It just seems like an odd thing to call the NBA.

2017 NBA Draft got a 2.2 rating and 3.4 million viewers. Maybe this year they'll get a 3!

JLN isn't doing a great job trolling but as the youngest member of The Lodge I can assure you that his WBL stuff isn't racist. Corny? Definitely. Racist? Not at all.

So the NBA is synonymous with "Woke Friend League"?

I think the "woke" stuff acknowledges that it's a black league BUT I don't think it's reasonable to make the leap that it's a racist name.

No one has referenced the "Progressive" nature of the NBA to the best of my knowledge. It is patently stupid to presume that people are saluting it when no one has ever mentioned it. If you check his right wing hack ass out he makes presumptions such as these all the time then whines when others reverse field on towards him.

I always hear/read that "woke" is a state of mind, a higher plane of progressive existence. Anyone can attain it.

I chose "woke" because it is always, ALWAYS used to refer to liberal/progressive ideals, and the most right-leaning thing I've heard come out of the NBA in any capacity is "Republicans buy sneakers, too" which may not have actually been said.

If they are going to continue to use the signature event of the NFL offseason as a marker then it is fair to use the NBA Finals as a marker also.

You're using an offseason event and comparing to an in season event.

My original premise (which the tone deaf buffoon has attempted to distort) was never related to in season football vs in season basketball. It was about off season NFL talk vs in season NBA talk.

Football heavy discussions are fine as long as its inseason but the notion that more people care about it during the off season than post season NBA Basketball is preposterous.

If he and others are going to use the NFL draft as a litmus test then its fair to use the NBA finals as a litmus test also.

Do you mean to say that standing for the national anthem is "right-leaning"? I think you can have nationalistic pride and respect without being a jingoist.

Kind of a difference between "Right-leaning people want [X]" and "[X] in and of itself is a right-leaning concept", though, right? Sure, right-wing NFL fans foam at the mouth of not showing respect to The Troops, but I don't think that makes "showing respect to The Troops/Flag" a conservative concept. If it does, does that mean disrespect is a progressive concept? It leads to absurdity.

The difference is irrelevant in this case. It's still something that came from the NBA that should appeal to right leaning folks, which is what your original premise was.

Standing for the anthem at sporting events has recently been politicized to be a left/Right issue. Let’s not be ridiculous by trying to argue otherwise.

Ok, if you want to be technical about it, so will I. Here is my original premise:

I think my premise was the the most right-leaning thing by its very nature. So I'm sorry, but the difference between appealing to the Right and actually being a Right-leaning concept is crucial.

Why isn't it crucial? Because you want to take "most right-leaning thing" to be both "right-leaning by its nature" and "appealing to right-leaning people"? That's pretty disingenuous.

No, it's not. See leash's post above for an even clearer explanation. You're just arguing to argue at this point.

This one?

He just intimates that "standing for the anthem" is right-leaning because of how it is "politicized". Standing for the national anthem is not inherently conservative because of "politicization", whatever that is. Again, this line of thinking necessitates that "respect" is a right-leaning concept, and "disrespect" is progressive. That's just absurd.

Let's try this: What is conservative about standing for the national anthem?
