When you look at the 20th and 21st century Atheism and the governments it inspired to kill 152 million people were far more deadly and dangerous than any Judeo-Christian group. If you hold to the "God is dead" belief then you can justify anything you want. If ethics are matter of opinion and there is no judgement for the unrighteous after death, what's to stop someone from committing unthinkable crimes against humanity? If there is no God then "good and evil" are merely human constructs that people create to affirm their own behavior.

Leaned on the worm Paul Ryan to fire the Jesuit House of Representatives chaplain as he apparently was too actual word and belief of Jesus-y for Southern types.

Penn Jillette has a great quote about moral/ethical absolutism, I think it is. He says his lack of belief does mean that he is free to commit as many unspeakable acts as he pleases, and he commits a number of horrible things, and that number is zero.

So to answer your question, people not wanting to commit unthinkable crimes against humanity is what will keep it from happening all the time.

Had a neighbor when I was a kid that used to give these "comics" out with pencils on Halloween.

Random comment as I recently had a conversation with a man of God at a wedding. It wasn't beni's ftr. His church and congregation operated around Grand and kedzie area since the 60s. He was retired, but still in the business of trying to assist his community. It has changed over the years. In that nape of the neck a spiritual person is regularly needed. The community does not go to his church, but he still tried to comfort those in need, and recruit people to join to here His word and stop what plagues the area today. I enjoyed our discussion regarding this topic of attempting to obtain membership. His flock for the most part all moved to the suburbs. But he doggedly sticks it out in a very difficult environment. He's a good dude, doesn't drive a Caddie and isnt the philandering type...in the business for the right reasons. Don't hate em all.
