When did black people become so obsessed with Spongebob?

This story, from skimming it, sounds like a reprise of Schaumburg's very own Dashcon, the convention for people who post on Tumblr, where people who know absolutely nothing about event planning try to plan their own event and then every little thing goes tragically wrong.

I read this at five am and all I could come up with what this: Many Internet writers unconsciously use Internet wokeness (which involves using the lingo and paying homage to woke gods and goddesses and godkin) to mask their inability to analyze. Or maybe they just confuse this type of writing with cleverness or actual sustained thought. The fact that I'm a total loser doesn't make this not true.

It's almost 10a and I'm puzzled by this myself. Everyone loves SpongeBob, especially parents of elementary schoolers in the 2000's. Oh well. (And as a sidenote I cannot stand Beyoncé or the Bey-hive)

I need to say flat out that not everyone loves Spongebob. I personally blame Spongebob for ruining the greatness that was Nick of the 1990s. I was raised on the old Nickelodeon.

Have also seen some fringe evangelicals mention him and Patrick as promoting the “gay agenda.”

I don’t mind spongebob but don’t miss it in the least.

I know the gay agenda, and SpongeBob is not a part of it.

Thoughts in Tinki Winki? The first time someone said that we shouldn’t let our kids watch Spongebob for this reason I was dumbfounded. I don’t think I saw eye to eye on one thing with that guy. He was a nut job.

I agree. It was interesting to learn in that video that the $12,000 figure was inaccurate but repeated by the media. Much more likely everyone shilled out about a grand.

Question; for lack of a better analogy, are the majority of hardcore sportswriters the nerds that grew up idolizing the jocks, and now that they have their ear they slob all over them, access based journalism-ism?

Your peter kings, your o’reillys, crasnicks, for example?

Trevor Bauer will not be piloting fighter jets apparently.

there is a very predictable pattern to Deadspin posts and comments where the author, almost always Burnenko or Ley, will write "This is the Miami Dolphins (just an example) and they are very bad" and the first, highest rated, most popular comment is always "HA! I always knew the Dolphins were bad. They are quite bad as you say". This one about Bauer has a fucking 4chan post used as fact. And these people, the type of people who comment on Gawker Media blogs and would become sobblingly triggered by even a tame 4chan post, are all about it! Because it fits the mini narrative put forth by Ley.

I know this dynamic between media creators and media consumers is nothing new, but the way these blogs curate the comments they allow to be seen and the specific type of groveling retard who eats this shit up makes it so clear and apparent. Its transparently pavlovian. The conditioning is perfect.

based on listening to the podcast, Thiel comes off as more hero than villain and Gawker a villain that got blind-sided by Thiel's long-boiling plot to take down Gawker.

Gawker didn't take Hogan's lawsuit seriously--witness AJ D's dumb-ass deposition testimony about showing videos of children. They didn't take it seriously cuz they figured Hogan didn't have the resources to take the case all the way to/through trial; and would settle on the eve of trial. The way every other posturing celeb had done when taking on Gawker. Had they known Thiel was bankrolling Hogan's legal bills--via a scheme of shell companies to hide Thiel's funding, Gawker would've taken the lawsuit seriously and probably not lost. Or at least not lost so spectacularly.

I think it’s safe to assume that, absent evidence to the contrary, white US-born baseball players are Breitbart/Infowars level right wingers.

I mean, think about it. MLB disproportionately draws its talent from deep red states, and they tend to come from wealthy families that can afford travel teams and personal coaches. They spend a lot of time on the road and get their news from their peers or social media. And minorities in clubhouses usually speak Spanish so there’s limited interaction. This all adds up to assholes who retweet memes from USApatriots.info and police officers are an oppressed group.

He’s from CA. There’s like a lot of really good baseball players from CA. You know sunshine and a huge population with disposable income makes it kind of a hot bed for talent.

Yeah but I bet he’s from some rural town outside Fresno or some [checks Wikipedia] oh he’s from North Hollywood.

Still, I think my point still stands. Baseball basically attracts and nurtures right wing politics.

Well, yeah, I was completely wrong on all accounts but my point still stands.

It's an antiquated idea that you should give the people what they want...
