Otherwise did we open the door for a search of a home of everyone wearing s pot leaf or che Guevara shirt?

Oooooor liklier the much simpler explanation.

Police - Step 1: we received a tip about a guy who is a white supremacist and is really interested in guns. Let's take 30 minutes to do a quick background check given our fellow police officers in Parkland got shit on for ignoring "warning signs".

Police - Step 2: Let's check if he has a FOID card!
a. Yes, OK well we will move on. There is nothing illegal going on. Kid likes guns and hates balcks.
b. No, OK he is breaking the law. We are going to take his guns.

Onto the next case.

You need a FOID card to be "really interested in guns"? In none of the reporting posted here has it been said that the anonymous tip said the kid possessed firearms.

correct, if you're going to strictly use the information from the article.

i'll go ahead and assume there are a lot more details not included. you should too.

"interest in guns" as opposed to "possession of guns" is a pretty big detail to leave out of the reporting, don't you think?

Already backtracking after calling me a troll in the same post!

Its tricky. I'm having a hard time believing that the batf was interested in someone due to a tshirt. He had illegal weapons. They should have been seized based on his lack of credentials. Now your trolling was about the NRA and you know that.
To the best of my knowledge, the two primary ways to solve the gun issue according to the NRA:
1) Add significantly more guns to the situation.
2) Have law enforcement catch bad people with guns prior to the act based on the clear warning signs that are almost always present after the fact.

That is what happened here.

What was the "clear warning sign" in this case?
I'll wait until he shoots up a school and then tell you.

I'm fine with anyone wearing a Cub shirt being looked into.

Here's the reporter's email address: rkambic@pioneerlocal.com

You can e-mail him and ask him for more details to know whether you should waste your time rambling for 6 pages.

I’m fine looking into anyone with a White Sox shirt if the city can spare a cop or two.

You're the one making assumptions, shouldn't you be researching your unsubstantiated assumptions?

Then again, if a person is in favor of stripping 2nd Amendment rights, I can see why that person wouldn't care for the others as well.

Don't worry, it's only a matter of time before this happens in our ever growing police state.

Really?

Also, see Brick's previous posts, but then again you added the "sane" qualifier so he may not apply

Come on, if you're going to troll through threads, then don't be surprised if someone throws a trolling back at you.

I'm pro gun in general. I'm anti-NRA.

Heck, I'm not even pro-NRA, but that's largely because I cannot get behind their support for Trump vs. Gary Johnson and also because I'm appalled by their pro-police stance (especially in the case of Philando Castile). Part of the reason I am so adamantly pro-gun is that I am anti-police.

Given what we see on a daily basis, I think it's justifiable to not trust police officers or our legal system, especially when it comes to searches and seizures

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives asked Vernon Hills police for help with a campus threat assessment of Jakub Zak, 19, following an anonymous tip about the teen’s interest in guns and a sighting of him at College of Lake County wearing clothing that promoted a group known as Patriot Front, according to Kim Christenson, spokesman for the Vernon Hills police department.
There was somebody who reported him. It's not as if the Police or ATF said, "We don't like your shirt. Relinquish your guns" like MANY in this thread would have you believe.
