I think it's worth a shot. Just increase the age limit. Also provide mental health screening and treatment.

Comical - jerk offs from Chicago or even Illinois thinking they can solve any other cities or states issues.

Thanks for the laugh.

You saw the warning sign with the Last Post column.

Maybe just try being clever once in a while. You're becoming a massive disappointment. It's like all you can do is pick a meme out, however stupid, and beat it to hell for a few months at a time until another dumbassed meme comes up for you and the cycle begins anew.

This.
Not that it matters to him or anyone else, but I used to glean something useful out of a lot of his posts.
Sometimes I wonder if he just does it to fill some sort of daily post quota, because you're right, it's just so played out and predictable.
Whatever. :?

Nothing can be done about my posts so we should just accept them as an unfortunate reality.

LA is under going a massive redevelopment in the downtown area with lots of housing and a large entertainment district being added. There are tons of new restaurants and a much larger population staying past work hours throughout the downtown. And yet just on the outskirts are large encampments. I was shocked at the amount of people that are "living" on the streets just outside of the commercial district. You see a lot of this in Denver too, which has redeveloped to an even greater extent. I attribute some of this to the relatively good weather in both these cities.

I recall seeing scattered homeless people sleeping in parks around UIC as a student. But what I have seen in Denver and LA is beyond anything you would find in cold weather cities.

Kick out the illegals. Give the homeless their jobs.
The ones left over arm put on the border and tell them to shoot anyone trying to cross. Multiple problems solved.

Folks like CH may have more intelligent thoughts on this matter, but I think a big part of the homeless problem is from folks with mental health issues.

What say you CFMB? A necessary solution to a growing problem or a gross violation of an individual's rights?

Have them build the wall and add living quarters for them to stay in after it is completed. Give them free rent for patrolling the wall after it is built. /thread

True a lot of the mental health issue is that people are not required to take their medications. Honestly the ACLU should never had stuck it's nose in it

Isn't there a DS9 episode where they go back to 2020s San Francisco and this is more or less what happened with the predictable dystopian results?

The solution is pretty obvious... you get some buses, offer them $250 each to get on the bus and you have a number of locations that might appeal (Portland, Vegas, Phoenix, Albequerque) Bus driver takes them to the city where the homeless congregate and lets them off. Costs you a little bit to pay for the bus driver and the gas and obviously the cash to get out of the state, but $250 can buy a lot of drugs in Albequerque.

wasn't that the solution south park came up with for the homeless/zombie plague? IIRC they saved the $250 by playing 2pac's california love to get them to want to go to california.

We should designate a state as a place for all the homeless. Arkansas would work. They have decent weather for most of the year. Round em all up and drop em off. It would definitely raise the IQ level of the state

If you were homeless in one of those places, do you suppose you'd spend a lot of time at the beach? If you could square away a viaduct to sleep under and a soup kitchen, you could just hang out at the beach all day.

The beach doesn't look too bad for the homeless. If you're lucky some rich guy will hire you to kill him.

I've always felt that after people have been collecting unemployment for six months, that they be required to join a work force that is dedicated toward public service ala the civilian conservation corps or whatever people want to call it. This presupposes that they are healthy and able to do physical tasks. Why not?

There really is no dishonor or embarrassment for working in this way. It shouldn't be considered anykind of punishment or servitude of any kind. Better people than me and whoever helped during the depression and the like when FDR started this kind of program. Working for a living is a good thing. Sitting on ones ass while able to work and collecting taxpayer money is not noble but quite a few people feel entitled to receive a free ride and take advantage of welfare and other entitlement and I hate that. I am old enough to remember how my father and uncles struggled when they got hit hard by the lack of jobs while they also had families to feed. They took every damned job that they could get and while young I remember my cousins and I helping out however we could. And I have tried my utmost to drum that notion into my three kids.

I suggest New York. I worked in Arkansas for 6 years. A beautiful state. A lot of good people in the state. Send them to New York. It would definitely improve the moral compass of the state.

How about before assigning people to labor camps as punishment for long-term unemployment, our government takes initiative to repair our crumbling infrastructure and then the jobs are there?

In general, a good percentage of the homeless population is made up of people with mental health problems. But in California, I think it's a greater number of people that just don't have jobs, want to live where it's warm and know there is a liberal government that hands out assistance to those in need readily. As a result, they have 25 percent of the entire nations homeless, serious problems with the encampments and a significant percentage of their population below the poverty level. Trump should stop all government aid to California, as a result of them being a sanctuary state. But don't believe for a minute that if they kicked all the illegals out that the homeless would take over their jobs. That is hard work. The likes of which the vast majority of the homeless population would be unable/ unwilling to do.

I had an uncle that was homeless for a while. It's hard, and I'm always torn on whether or not to give money to the people at stoplights or on the street. I kinda wonder about them or their stories at times too. What happened? Family? Life is a combination of luck, work, and choices and even if you have really bad luck or make some really bad choices how bad should somebody's life be?

From my experience if you take a sample of 65 homeless people 5-10 could work (sometimes they do) but aren't having luck and thankful for help, 5-10 people aren't very nice, and the rest have mental illness, handicaps, substance abuse issues, etc.

Volunteered at a shelter years ago in Elgin. The memorable users of the shelter were pretty messed up and a few were just a little bit terrifying. Most were just very quiet and would occasionally say thank you to the people servinh them breakfast or cleaning the shelter. Had a couplestreet preachers too. They were very friendly and just a wee bit crazy. As a teen it was an eye opener.
