Heard from my guy that the industry is stunned by the series of missteps by Theo beginning with the Chapman trade. Said there's no love lost for that arrogant SOB.
I said it was a stupid move when they made the deal and trading Eloy was another. I said they should keep Russell at SS till the end of 2016 and then trade HIM and install Torres at SS, as he will be the better player. I hated that trade and knew this would happen. A faking 3 month rental....STUPID!
I want sustained excellence, not just one title.
If they aren't in sustained success I don't know what it is. Who currently has had more sustained success than the Cubs? The Dodgers? Made the playoffs 5 times, 3 times appearing in the NLCS and twice in the world series. Betcha they trade some post season appearances for a title.
All this and the Cubs are floating above 500 recently having been in first place (for 24 hours). They are fine. They have only play 5 games against teams below .500 this year. They are 14-12 against teams over .500. They are the only team in the central with a winning record against winning teams.
I am not talking about 3-4 years, or even 6, I am talking about the old Atlanta Braves kind of sustained success. Winning 14 straight divisions. Sure they only won 1 World Series, but they were competing every year for 14 years for a title. That is the kind of longevity I am looking for, but may not get, thanks to Theo and Jed trading away guys like Glyber and Eloy. They should have been cornerstones, along with Bryant, Contreras and Baez.
