I honestly don't see how. It seems only consistent winning at high levels for years brings bodies to the park. Even with Reinsdorf gone I can't see how they turn it around.

I would agree.

When he passes, I hope the next person buys up the low income apartment buildings around the park to demolish them, and builds a new park.

Reinsdorf is not going to live forever. His entire business philosophy has been other people's money. So why does he care about a long contract as an 80-year-old?

This is actually a good point.

The problem with that is the Blackhawks had no local competition so once the owner croaked casual fans came back in droves. Nearly 100% of casual fans have been permanently ceded to the dump on the north side and they ain't never coming back. And a generation of local kids are growing up not rooting for the White Sox.

And should Reinsdorf or a new owner attempt to make a splash like signing Machado (which would be dumb anyway) the north side team would sabotage that by signing a bigger name like Harper and the PR would evaporate overnight.

The other thing the Sox tried passively before they should push full on now. Get the Hispanic fan.

Just based on what I see downtown I think that's already lost to the other team too. Those that I know are mostly north side fans and I see plenty that I don't know wearing their crap.

I think they are full on pushing now. Isn't nearly their entire lineup spanish speaking?

I have very few times wished someone dead other than avowed enemies of this country and its people. That being said, Reinny is a terrible owner and is responsible for the mess of both the Sox and the Bulls.

Its going to be a tough sled and I believe it will take totally different ownership. The new owner has to be willing to spend money and also hire good smart people. This is a Cubs town for sure BUT Reinny blew it after 2005 when this town enjoyed the Sox run. They had the chance to share this town with the Cubs and succeed but Reinny didn't do what only he could which was continue the success by spending money as a top level baseball team. Instead he wound up bringing guys in on the declining side of their careers and taking chances on talented but injury prone or unproven young players. This is all on Reinny.

The Blackhawks is a huge success story and it was a success story because Rocky hired great people and knew how to market his product.

The Wolves were a viable hockey option for the diehards for MANY years.

The casual fans you speak of didn't come back until the Cup Finals, maybe the conference Finals. Winning cures all.

I know this team isn't going to win now, but there needs to be some roster moves after the bullshit that was the this 1-5 homestand. Guys in the minors can absolutely do no worse than Thompson, Engel, and everybody in the bullpen.

I find this impossible to believe, given that the Blackhawks have led the NHL in attendance in each of the last 10 seasons.

http://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attendance/

The White Sox are more comparable to the Oakland A's or Milwaukee Brewers who even have trouble with attendance when times are good. And now that the casuals have been completely won over by that dump up north it may be impossible to generate serious fan interest in this team no matter what happens.

And the '08-'09 Hawks advanced to the Conference Finals.

So as I said, winning cured all.

Or when A-Rod signed with Texas. Or when the Marlins paid for the 97 World Series.

How long did Rodriguez last with Texas? Three years because they couldn't afford him and it was a disaster for the franchise. Similar to the Albert Belle signing here, which was abandoned after two seasons because they couldn't afford a $4.25 million raise divided over the final three seasons.

I'm honestly confused. If they didn't show up until the finals how did they lead the league in attendance ten straight seasons including this season when the finished in last place?

Belle was not an issue of money. They were sick of his act. It was a good decision. The Texas owner had money issues because of problens with his nonbaseball business. So wrong and wrong.

Good comeback. You say the Hawks fans only showed up for the finals but when given evidence that proves otherwise you're appropriately worded dumbstruck.

Cooper is as good a pitching coach that exists in baseball. He cannot make something out of nothing, though. This is on Hahn and Reinny.
