The point is Univision is not profiting well off their takeover of Gawker so...what next? Nobody else wants this toxic waste.

My reluctance to be lockstep with Gawker and the Brooklyn-blogger-brat hivemind is driving me insane. Whenever I take issue with them, I think that I must be profoundly stupid. I've found myself drowning in self-doubt because I don't always like the people who are supposed to be the smartest and most courageous people in media. Sometimes it makes me want to disengage from the internet altogether.

I think the online media bubble is about to burst and Gawker will be one of the early casualties. There are rumors circling that Univision is going to sell them for less than they paid a few years ago for the bankrupt company.

Ad supported digital media is just too heavily saturated and the revenue cannot support the expenses. I think Athletic found the correct model and whoever does that for a good news shop will profit nicely. WSJ already does that for exclusive business news pieces. Most of their stories are behind an effective paywall and I gladly pay for access to it.

NYT, WaPo, Trib etc. all have weak ass pay walls that anyone can get around with incognito mode.

I think the lesson here isn't that there is some giant bubble (though god I hope there is so these people all have to get real jobs), but that the GM hive has been pushed off the ledge and into the deep end by Trump. They were bratty and indignant when Obama was in charge, now that they've lost it just consumes them. And now they've added a blog hat gleefully awaits the race war and believes any retarded conspiracy they come across, like what they needed was more that kind of voice in their media family.

They still get clicks and looks, but its for all the wrong reasons. Some people will tell you it doesnt matter how you get attention, but I think that's bullshit. I think being universally reviled is not sustainable. Even if they make money nobody will want to have anything to do with them. Even in this pozzed society GM properties are just too radioactive. They are like Jason Goff times a million.
