Only if you storm Arby's with kites and tennis rackets.

Sometimes I wish you applied some of your intelligence seriously around here. Might make for good discussions.

I cancelled my subscription to the Economist and gave up on NPR. But for some odd reason I enjoyed the outcome of the recent Malaysian election. I found it weird that a 90+ year old former leader won by joining the opposition, and then is going to nominate a guy he put in jail on sodomy charges to be the next Prime Minister.

Yeah, pretty low level over there and barely worth mentioning, which also means lethal rounds will not likely be used. Unlike in Gaza where it was planned to be a breakout with the intent of attacking and kidnapping Israelis. I guess that's the difference between when Hamas plans its vs. when others plan it.

Ogie, simple question:

Are you able to give a simple reason for why live rounds were used instead of rubber bullets for instance?

They used non lethal rounds when they were further from the fence, but as they got closer and entered the zone that is designated as the security zone by Oslo, they turned to lethal means.

You'll notice today in the West Bank, where the riots are low key, you will see rubber bullets used instead. Compare that to Gaza where the intent was to breach Israeli territory for purposes of killing and kidnapping

Go read another wikipedia article. If you read a 2nd article, you'll know twice as much about the 90+ year conflict than you did yesterday.

In a sense you may be on to something. I heard a 35% level of Palestinian support for Hamas from within the Palestinian people polling number tossed around this morning. A number roughly equivalent to Trump's base. I wonder if Netanyahu's support is at roughly the same level?

Please no one forget Ogie is the same guy that called for US citizens to take up arms and begin assasinating police, but when pressed on the issue said he wouldn't be joining the armed resistance.

Nothing he says should be taken seriously. He's merely repeating Israeli propaganda.

Well Trump/Pence DID send over a rabid anti-Semitic "pastor" to do the invocation at the Embassy opening.

Figured that one out a long time ago. This is the same guy that rails against tyranny and oppression (american that is) every chance he gets yet is quite comfortable with it when it is of the self serving variety. What I find interesting (not surprising) is the way that he has been given a pass on his hypocrisy. Forget about where you fall on the question of Israel and Palestine for a second. He is being hypocritical as hell about oppression and tyranny. That shouldn't be ignored in all of this.

Hamas openly and actively seeks the destruction of Israel. Our President is not doing that to any country. If he was then I wouldn't blame the country seeking destruction for fighting back with force.

Palestine would exist today and be peaceful if a different path had been chosen but the objective is clear and it isn't simply to have a place to call their own.

That's why no one even answered the question of why they are protesting? Why can't the United States put an embassy in Jerusalem?

Israel's system is parliamentary so you have a coalition. His party holds about 1/4th of the seats, but his coalition of allied parties holds 67 seats. There is pretty much no path for the opposition to build a coalition. Heck, if Bibi was not leading Likud, I honestly think Likud would draw even more seats next time around.

Bibi still keeps winning elections largely because the parties in the opposition have relatively weak leadership. The Labor Party has gone through about 4 leaders in the last 7 years whereas Bibi has headed Likud since Ariel Sharon broke from it to form Kadima (which is now no longer in existence)

It's pretty hard for the Israeli left to win an election as the last 2 times they were in power, we had the Lebanon withdrawal and the start of the 2nd Intifada. The most recent time they were in power had the Gaza pullout. Both moves were promised to bring peace, but in the end only handed territory to terrorist groups (Hezbollah in South Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza). The only way a left wing party gets into a government next time around is if a centrist party (Yesh Atid comes to mind) gets the highest number of seats. They would be in a position to build a coalition so get ready to Prime Minister Yair Lapid if that happens, which could actually be very good.

You keep saying I'm "repeating Israeli propaganda" yet you never once have anything that can contradict it. I guess that's what happens when the facts do not lie on your side.

Seriously, go bring something constructive to the argument. I know it's a struggle, but at least try

While I have not seen the specific video of the "protests", I saw the footage of the first day of rage after the protests started. It was throwing rocks and rioting. Not what I would call peaceful protesting, and while bloodshed is regrettable, if you are rushing a fortification then your expectation of safety should probably not be high.

I'd say that Bibi probably needs to go as he has reached a point where his decisions come more out of self interest than anything else. Lapid would be a breath of fresh air. If he wins it will be because people on the right defect from Likud after being tired of Bibi and likewise people on the left defecting from Labor because Herzog is only in that position due to his name.

Ogie, you just come off as kind of a loon when you call for the assassination of American police because of tyranny and oppression, but then cheer on Israel for their continued massacre of Palestinians.

I think the specific location as to where in Jerusalem it was put is part of the problem. The fair end game is a two state solution with East Jerusalem existing as the capitol of the State of Palestine.

I don't have any Jewish relatives that I know of. I also don't hate Arabs. But I'm not ignorant to the FACT that Arabs hate Jews and generally want to destroy them to the point that they incorporate the concept into their constitutions. The only thing that could make an Arab nation somewhat tolerant of Israel is Iranian mullahs attempting to reestablish some type of modern Persian empire with assistance from Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama.
