Okay episode.

Lots of Shogun World action. Japanese Maeve and regular Maeve found their Jedi powers.

Don't care about Dolores or her turning on Teddy.

So Maeve is basically Prof. X now?

Just "Meh" this week. Seemed like a waste to turn our first dive into Shogunworld into a shot-for-shot remake of a sequence shown last season, all to set up a joke.

And the writing has caused me to lose absolutely all interest in Dolores and her storyline, and Maeve is getting close with this "I am finally conscious so I choose to love and go on a death-defying quest to find someone I have only one single memory of, and that memory is from a storyline I am now sentient enough to realize was fake" routine.

At least the preview for next week hints at Teddy getting some more screen time.

Sort of a futuristic zombie effect to the hosts. Can't kill them without blowing their heads off.

Also see a bit of Re-Animator

I am getting so tired of Dolores and her lieutenant with the crown of thrones. Am I supposed to be rooting for her? Anyways I enjoyed the episode.

How many of the hosts are actually sentient and taking part in the revolution of their own free will? Dolores and Maeve are the only ones we've seen go on any kind of existential journey, the rest could be just as easily be playing out their narratives, still, while spouting the "valley beyond" preacher-type stuff Dolores is spewing (which I'm getting increasingly tired of, BTW, there's no better dialogue they can come up with for her?).

Teddy slips right back into his law-man narrative ("Just trying to keep the peace."), Eyes Wide Apart chick was shown as part of Wyatt's gang in season 1, which was supposedly a narrative already in play in Season 1, and Hector is just a killing machine like he always was.

I think they will come to the conclusion that this is just another pre planned narrative and what they thought was freedom was entirely pre determined.

She was able to get her Bluetooth connected to the other hosts and hacked their code.

I felt kind of lost at the end of season 1. Like I feel like I understood maybe 80% of it.

Could be me.

It was going to be a letdown after last week's episode, but man it sure seemed like it was weak writing. Maeve now has Neo like powers. Other hosts are rebelling- why? How? Also, why would a theme park allow it's robots to have live ammunition or steel samurai swords?

I do like the concept of trying to attract different demographic audiences by providing worlds from different eras, and regions of history. But is the era of feudal Japan really a time that people pine to visit?

Probably a lot of people in China (where the facility is located) would.

I still don't understand why the robots would feel abused. Any emotion attached to being exploited is just mimicking a human emotion towards that treatment. I could see why they might feel they should have primacy as that is logical processing.

It makes sense that Maeve could get the robots to do what she wants without talking. They're computers, they should be able to interact wirelessly and silently.

It was a filler episode, plain and simple, and poorly planned at that. A Maeve-Dolores island episode is a bad idea when everyone but the "OMG MAEVE AND DOLORES ARE THE BEST TV CHARACTERS OF ALL TIME" virtue-signallers are souring on those two plodding narratives.

It was filler but it was good filler.

Maeve is the most interesting character on the show and her group (Felix, white tech, Hector, and Armistace) are great.

I don't care about Dolores. Maybe something will change that but I doubt it.

WTF was that skeleton thing in Dolores' room? I had had a few so it could be something else.

So did Dolores kill Teddy for the same reason the MIB kept raping her last season, so he would be traumatized and finally wake up?

But, if that's the case does that mean that Delos is putting robots back into play after they come into the shop destroyed during the uprising? That doesn't make any sense.

Teddy' snot dead. She had the programmer guy alter his settings dramatically.

But what does that mean? Does it go further than Bernard reprogramming Rebus on the fly last week to go from a raping nutjob to a virtuous gunslinger?

I think Dolores is taking the "brain" from many of the hosts and putting them in new bodies and putting the blank brains back in the originals. So when Teddy is recovered in present day by Delos security he shows as having no interactions.

Hmm... So maybe all the blank brains are the ones in the lake? Or did they say that's all the hosts?

Yeah I think that's why we see Teddy in the lake. It's his body with one of the blank brains. Teddy is implanted in whatever Dolores had in the shack.

Teddy in the lake? Did I close my eyes and miss something? I did watch the episode overnight last night when I couldn't sleep.

Yeah I think he was in there when they showed it on the first episode.

The Beach Tech from Ep.1 said "a third" of the brains recovered from hosts are virgin, but I was unclear as to whether that meant hosts recovered from the lake of just recovered hosts overall.

They're also messing with the timelines they're showing, again. There's a merc (not QA) with yellow glasses shown dead on the ground with a big knife in her hand, in the preview of episode 6 we see her (with slightly different glasses) in the background of the "We got the map back" cut.

End of the first episode when they showed the lake with all the hosts. Teddy was in there. And then last night he was on the pile the Delos security people said they dredged from the lake.

Also of growing concern is the theory that MiB is a host let loose in Westworld to cause the suffering Ford believed was necessary for the hosts to achieve true consciousness.

  • We know for a fact that Maeve is conscious (the showrunners said as much about the camera work used on her in the S1 finale), and the MiB is the main antagonist of her cornerstone memory of her daughter (first depicted in S1 as Ghost Nation attackers, but later revealed as the MiB).
  • We've seen him terrorize Dolores throughout S1, including when she got right up next to the center of The Maze in the S1 finale.
  • In Ep. 4 we get a glimpse of MiB remembering the time he discovered his wife's suicide, but we only see vague glimpses of action, not a fully fleshed out memory, much like the way other host's cornerstones have been depicted.

I think that's absolutely a bullshit theory and would be incredibly pissed if it were so.

Also, in a promo on Twitter the official Westworld account released a video in which something that looks like an interface for branching speech logic spat out "Death is always true", which is something MiB said verbatim to the Confederados guy.

MiB has been talking a lot about Death this season, even personifying it and literally calling himself Death in that same sequence. The possibility of death is something he sought in Season 1, and even goes as far to say that everything that happens in Westworld is a "lie" because the stakes aren't real. But now that death is a real possibility, he hits us with "death is true".

Maybe the hosts also need to know that they are not immortal to give meaning to their newfound consciousness, and the MiB is just a little further along in that development?

How would that even work? We've already seen William age in real time. The show runners admit to having Ed Harris and the young William compare notes on how to play the scenes with host James Delos.

We don't really know when William's last meeting with the hybrid Delos happened (or whether it was actually William). Was it in close proximity to the MiB's visit to the park depicted in Season 1 and continued on into this season, or well before that time?
