What is troubling is the notion that groups that have been historically disinfranchised are wrong for speaking out about inequities. I've never watched/listened to Limbaugh beyond clips that are in the news or whatever. If he called every woman a feminazi that's wrong, if he called a Dicaro type woman one he's less wrong. I used to thing the right was "bad" and there wasn't much wrong with the left. Neither one motivated me to support them in anyway. The left has some really crazy, loud, and bad ideas currently. The silencing of speakers seem to be a bone of contention in my family specifically. I don't blame people for turning away even if what they are turning to is pretty bad in a different way. Sometimes you gotta pick a poison.

It's just a matter of policy. They are the two competing ways of bringing in immigrants. The UK and very famously Canada never pushed the melting pot the way the USA did.

Until recently it was considered very bad to be a hyphen-American. Speaking your mother tongue after a generation or two was really frowned on. That's not true in the UK or Canada.

It's a political buzzword. Multiculturalism is the idea that different groups move to America and don't assimilate whatsoever, keeping their own culture completely.

Traditionally, America has been a place of assimilation, where we accept anyone who wants to come with the understanding that they adopt Western culture and values upon their immigration.
