I think the reactionism was inevitable. The true cancer is social media itself.

I see what your saying Leash and I'm sorry if I'm being to aggro. It's just tiring to see the lefts narrative and then have people on the left say it doesn't exist.

I can admit that the right has a xenophobic, big business and anti middle East intervention message right now. I can see the side I support for what it is.

How about taking responsibility for your own posts? You aren't "telling it like it is" or saying anything profound or thought provoking. There is no need for the ignorance or bomb throwing. Sure from the lack of pushback (In comparison to what's done to others) it may appear that MANY are supportive or okay with these things. Reality is you don't need to do it. I've read enough of your posts to know that you can make strong statements and have reasonable debates without the ignorance.

Fucking twitter reactionists.

I don't know if you saw any of the debate on political correctness between Michael Eric Dyson and Michelle Goldberg on one side vs. Jordan Peterson and Stephen Fry on the other. But Goldberg made the point that the only way a person could believe that the Left was holding sway in America is by spending most of his/her time on a college campus. That was an obvious shot at Peterson, but I thought, a valid point.

Still, it ignores the fact that our future leaders are all coming through this environment and I think you're dismissing that fact a bit too easily.

Also, on a somewhat related note, I remember a pie chart in Charles Murray's book Coming Apart that illustrated a breakdown of the political beliefs of Americans in rural areas and cities. The groupings were actually roughly the same. However, when the cities were narrowed down to New York, D.C., L.A., Seattle, and San Francisco, doctrinaire liberal took up about 65% of the chart. These are our cultural centers that have an inordinate influence over media, entertainment, advertising, etc. I would suggest that academia has a similar influence and certainly what is being taught at our universities now will be critical in years to come.

Life has a way of making most 18 year olds a little bit more conservative before they are old enough to become leaders. That always been the case. The majority creates new boogeymen for the 40+ crowd all the time. For MANY years the majority has accused college kids, blacks, Hispanics, Jews, Muslims, Asians, LGBTQ, women like Julie and others of being a problem. Now they're upset that MANY of these people are saying that their resistance to change may be a problem. That comes off as extremely hypocritical. I guess when you are the majority you don't have to give a shit about hypocrisy. You can just smack everyone around.

It doesn't matter that students are shutting down college campuses over non-existent hate speech?

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/09/us/u ... llout.html

Enrollment fell 35 percent. It cost the university millions of dollars and thousands of jobs. Do you think these kids are going to suddenly abandon these thoughts when they leave the school? These people are entering politics, and many of their ideas are becoming mainstream already.

Racism is now impossible to define. The tiniest unintended "slight" can result in a protest. Party like it's 1776 required a school district to issue an apology.

Tell me why I should give a fuck about a university losing enrollment. Especially over perceived racism.

Thousands of jobs? How is that even fucking possible? Have you ever been on a major university campus? There is maybe a few thousand jobs total on campus. Maybe just around 1,000 on the smaller D-1 campuses.

Another article in the St. Louis Dispatch just noted that freshman enrollment is expected to be up 14% this year based on the number of deposits kids have put down to secure their dorm rooms. And that transfer enrollment is up strongly as well.

And anecdotally, most of the kids my son or I know there love the place. But don't let the people actually there or looking to go there now detract from the partially sourced 8 month old story you posted.

What about the story is wrong or partially sourced? I know quite a bit about the university.

All I can say is militant activism has been a sub-culture there for quite awhile. And while I know you don’t care, being screamed at for being privileged inside dining halls is certainly not enjoyable. It also leads to an environment primed for much worse.

So everyone in the country must agree with you 100% or their views are a “problem”?

You really could not be more naive. Flagship research universities are some of the largest regional and state-wide employers. If you think costing many people their jobs is no big deal because of "perceived racism", mind you this is a liberal university that elected a gay black kid student body president, then I don't know what to tell you.

Who is "the majority?? As far as hypocrisy- I was once told to not judge people by their appearance. Now the narrative is that if you are white you are a privileged oppressor, and if you are a POC you are a victim. This is a dangerous narrative to peddle in for either side.

Is everything a stereotype with you? To be white isn't synonymous with being an oppressor. Oppressor is as oppressor does. To be white doesn't necessarily necessitate that you are an oppressor.

Where people take issue is with the notion that oppression does not exist or that individual acts of oppression do not occur. In the views of MANY oppression is merely something that certain people reference as a means to excuse perceived inadequacies.

There are certain groups in this country that have been oppressed and there are certain people that have been discriminated against Those are facts. To some extent they are still discriminated against. You can choose to ignore it or minimize it or equivocate as you have often done on here but it doesn't mean that everyone has to.

People are upset simply because those belonging to the disenfranchised class are attempting to exact change. That is their right as Americans. The reason that these groups do not vote Republican is because Republicans are rightly or wrongly seen as a symbol of that "oppression". When you look at the issues that have been championed by Republicans over the years very few if any have been beneficial for them.

Thats not why “people are upset”.

Shutting down your campus or shouting down speakers for “hate speech” is not going to change anything for the positive. University students are privileged by definition for the most part or setup to be. This has little to nothing to do with Fox News or Republicans. So lets stop that right there.

The "change" they want to exact is the permanent and violent destruction of a way of life that has been more than 2500 years in the making.
