I know this has been discussed and people say "the Sox have no young talent."

Once again, I know it's early. But lets look at this.

Danks - Young pitcher seems like he's got a chance to be good.

Floyd - Young pitcher seems like he's got a chance to be good.

Broadway - He's doing great in the minors

Quentin - Great defensive right fielder. Has some pop. I'm still not convinced he can hit curve balls. I'm shocked the AL hasn't figured that out yet.

Ramierez - Looks like he has talent.

Fields - Will be a 35-40 home run guy for years. That I know.

Owens - Not sure. Doubt it.

Richar - Not sure. Has a chance I guess.

Anderson - He doesn't play but at least he's more tradeable now. Other teams will see his spring training and have interest in him.

Now, Danks, Floyd, and Quentin didn't come from the Sox system. People will say that. So what? They are young and Kenny traded for all of them. We got them and they are young. Doesn't matter how we got them.

I guess my point is that the Sox do have young talent when everybody says they don't. They aren't getting old with no hope for the future. Hell, if Danks and Floyd are good that's 40% of the Sox pitching staff for years. Hopefully Broaday can make that 3 guys. You already have Buehrle and Vasquez for a few more years. They still have good years left.

Jenks is still in his mid 20's. Konerko has a few more good years left. Maybe they sign Crede. He's still got years left. Could trade Konerko and put Fields at 1st.

I'd classify Quentin more as a bad defensive left fielder.

You haven't been watching the games then. He's caught everything and has a rifle arm.

I have been watching the games and I've seen him look uncomfortable several times out in the field... including the time the ball hit him in the face on a pretty basic fly ball.

No need to get snippy 15 games into the season and start playing the "you haven't been watching the games" card. I haven't seen what I'd consider "great" outfield play from Quentin so far, but I hope he changes my mind as the season progresses.

Ok. "Great" is still too early to determine. Sorry. He's got a cannon for an arm. That can't be disputed. He's made about 3 or 4 tough catches.

I guess I can say without question that he doesn't "suck" defensively. You claimed that he's "bad". That's not true.

Danks - He better be good. Passed up a number of offers on Mccarthy to end up with him.

Floyd - I drafted Floyd in my Fantasy league before and watched his stats. He had some good outing and some terrible ones. Hope he can put it together more often

Broadway - He's doing great in the minors. It's the minors. Have seen tons of guys doing it.

Quentin - His arm is great, but not that mobile. Playing at home is a small OF. Lots hype on this guy after the 2 HR night, he is up to .244. If he was really that great, they would have kept him even with the OF in AZ being so crowded.

Ramierez - .125 with 6 K's in 15 AB's. Fast and great fielder, but may never hit Major League pitching.

Fields - If Crede had MVP type of year we lose him for sure, as he gets HUGE offers. Then Fields steps in Crede's shoes and it just becomes added pressure. I see this being a bad story.

Owens - Not sure. Doubt it. 5Th OF

Richar - Not sure. Has a chance I guess. Nope

Anderson - He doesn't play - So how can you trade him?

I think the good start has got some of the Sox faithful feeling OK about the team and organization. After all the bad Tigers games and how well we have played we are 4.5 games ahead of last place.

I need to see much more before I am feeling good.

I know Bearboy. My point is that everybody said "the Sox have no young talent".

Of course it's early. But I think a lot of those guys have a chance. That's my only point. It's not as dark and bleak as people have claimed.

On Anderson - I'm just saying he has more trade value from his Spring than he did last year. That's all.

I was using the "bad" simply to counter your "great"...but I really was just making a joke because you called him a great right fielder and he plays left field.

Ok. Of course I know he plays left. I just messed up. You're point is well taken.

Once again, I know all of these guys aren't gonna be great. I'm just saying there is hope when everybody said the Sox have no young talent at all. That's it.

Don't forget that Jenks is 27, Masset 25 and Logan 23.

I hate what I have seen from Alexai so far and I dont think Owens is that good, but I agree with your assessment as well as your point. Danks and Floyd have looked really good so far.

I forgot about Swisher. He's no rookie but with regards to the Sox future, we have him locked up for 4 years. For all of those years Swisher will be in his prime. I think he's 27 or 28 right now.

What planet are you on?

Take off your Harry Caray glasses and watch a game once in a while - this kid is all over the field making plays.

Reading(the whole thread) is a skill.

Defensive skill in the outfield is tough to judge without being at the game, because you cannot really see what type of jump players get on the ball or how much range they cover. A bunch of diving plays is not necessarily indicative of good defense.

Nor is a bunch of outfield assists.

True Irish Boy. But sometimes on TV they show the wide view on the replays. You can actually see the jumps of players. The hitter and fielder are both in the picture at contact. They showed Quentin once and he had a tremendous jump.

That wasn't a comment about Quentin. I haven't really seen him enough to have any idea one way or another. I'm just saying that diving catches aren't really an indication. People used to say that Sosa was OK defensively because he would have a big diving catch every once in a while. But he also had no range.

Yeah. I know what you're saying.

Often, DJ or Hawk will tell you "good jump" or "bad jump" if they don't show it on the replay. They don't cover it up. They'll tell you the truth.

WestmontMike is right. We haven't seen enough of Quentin to totally judge him. I like what I've seen so far.

Quentin was a top prospect for the D'Backs a couple years ago and has been generally rated an average-to-above-average defensive corner OF'er. No matter, Quentin and Swisher are light years ahead the combo of Gonzales, Podsednik, and Owens offensively.
