Well the NBA certainly promotes individuality a lot more than the NFL does. But that goes hand in hand with it's marketing strategy.

The anthem rules are the same now essentially for both leagues.

Trump literally saying that people need to stand proudly or they shouldnt be in this country seems like it should be a bigger deal.

I understand that but it doesn't change the fact that Kerr directly said that the NBA was more understanding and tolerant of players kneeling for the anthem. That's just not true, and it kind of undercuts the rest of his message.

NFL players can wear message t-shirts on the field during warmups, can't they? They can say whatever they want on social media. I don't think they can typically write things on their shoes, though, but I think the NFL had a week where they could do something charity-related with their shoes.

Technically, he said the NBA understood WHY they were protesting and that it wasnt intended to disrespect the military.
