I considered keying a car in a parking garage last week for taking up multiple spots with a shitty car.

If it had been a really nice car, would you have been more likely to do it?

A lot of you aren't going to like hearing this, but you shouldn't try to irritate cops. It accomplishes nothing. I know you were raised to believe that you are very special and nobody can tell you what to do, but that is wrong. Police can tell you what to do. That is a sacrifice we make to have a society where contracts can be enforced and people aren't murdered arbitrarily.

Societies have tried to decentralize law enforcement for ages. Try not to out it all in the hands of one person. So:
Cops don't write laws.
Cops don't sentence you to jail.
But somewhere the rubber has to meet the road and people gotta get arrested and it's just not feasible to have a judge and 12 jurors on standby for every situation. If you've truly "done nothing" then act like it, and if they're gonna arrest or ticket you any way accept it. Don't incriminate yourself, get a lawyer and fight it that way. That's the system. Going to jail is gonna suck but they can't hold you more than one night without charges and if you do get charged bail exists.

Trying to fight with them ends poorly. You are only dig your whole deeper.

WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY!

I won't deny that this is good advice. He has a gun, a badge that says he can use it, and a powerhouse union that will support him when he shoots you.

But he's not some king that can just order you around like a serf. He's a public servant.

Think of it like your boss or a big client. Even if you hate them and disgaree with everything they do you're still going to approach with tact. And if you go full scorched earth not giving a fuck nobody is going to give you any sympathy when the inevitable happens. Some people in life just got you by the balls. If you think cops don't have someone in their ear giving them shit you're out of your mind.

Everyone acts like he was summarily tased for parking in handicap stalls. He wasn't. There is like 7 minutes of intervening conversation that is really why he got what he got. If any point he just sucked up his pride and kissed the ring he probably goes home pissed off but generally OK. But he didn't. And when he didn't he rolled a set of dice on how the officers react. The dice come up Get Tased and Arrested.

Growing up doesn't entail licking the boots of police officers. It's perfectly reasonable to talk to them like a man and not a sniveling coward.

Does "talking to them like a man" mean you should sit there and argue about whether your car is in a handicap stalls when you are holding the conversation literally inches from your car as it is parked in a handicap stall?

To me that's childish. And retarded. So if by "man" you mean "childish retard" then yes, our friend Sterling swung on and belted his man-test. His reward was some voltage and a night in the clink.

Nope. It just means you don't need to automatically bend the knee and do whatever the fuck they tell you. Like JORR said, they're servants, not kings.

I'm sure your former Uber pigeons would have the same advice for you.

Where has your newly found--and hypocritical--reverence for legal authority come from?

Your posts are beginning to read like you were the valedictorian at a totalitarianism-for-beginners boot camp.

Yeah but in this particular instance, taking his hands out of his pockets to show that he had no weapons might have drastically changed this situation.

As I said earlier, ALL involved acted terribly and are to blame for this.

When you are caught absolutely red handed just own it. If Sterling had actually done nothing wrong he'd be fine arguing and standing up for himself. But he acted like a child caught in a lie, becoming increasingly obstinate and confrontational because he was clearly uncomfortable being confronted by someone over his behavior.

Just act like a human being. I'm surprised you are so sensitive, you're not a manlet.

I don't really disagree with America's point though, as much as the truth of it pisses me off.

My mom used to get indignant with cops on the ocassions when she would bump up against them, like getting pulled over. I used to tell her, if you kiss his ass a little, maybe he won't write you the ticket, but she'd be like, "The hell with that asshole. Why doesn't he go catch some real criminals? I refuse to bow to him." And I'd say, "Great. Enjoy spending about a half hour more sitting here than we should and paying the tickets he writes." And it's obviously worse for a black man. My mom wasn't in danger of getting tased or shot.

In a somewhat perfect world for everyone FF is right. I witnessed enough police abuse as a kid and seen enough stories as an adult to understand it's best to play it safe. My pride isn't worth the risk of not coming home to my family.

No question about it Brown was an asshole for the way he parked. That being said it's clear from that video that it really didn't matter what he did the officer was going to prove that his dick was bigger. He blocked Brown from entering his car and touched him within seconds of seeing him. He questioned if his license was real. Then instead of writing a ticket he called for backup after Brown didn't kiss his ass.

Come on. Write the guy a parking ticket and move on. They have every right to police in that situation. How can you not see that they went way overboard?

Exactly. Cop could have probably written him up for a handful of violations and maybe found one that made him have to appear, just to make it inconvenient. He wouldn't have even had to talk to Brown, just wallpapered his windshield with big orange envelopes.

If he wanted to be a real bitch he could have snapped a pick of the car the way it was parked and posted it on the internet. Internet crazies would have loved to shamed him for that.

Instead, he had to care too much. If cops wrote tickets for violations that would be wasting their entire day. They know this. They only write this kind of violation to be bitchy

Wasn't sure where to put this, but it's a pretty interesting conversation with Killer Mike and Bill Maher regarding gun control. It touches on the racial aspect of law enforcement and the history of gun laws affecting African-Americans.
