Just when it looked likeYu Darvish might be rounding back into form, the Chicago Cubs right-hander suffered another setback.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon hopes it won't be a major one.


The Cubs placed Darvish on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with right triceps tendinitis, continuing his rough season.

"We're not overly concerned," Maddon said. "We're just going precautionary method right now to make sure everything is good. We'll probably get a test, an MRI, and then we'll know more for sure."

Darvish is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in his first season after signing a $126 million, six-year deal with the Cubs in February. He was slated to start the series finale against the Giants on Sunday night, but Tyler Chatwood will move up a day to take his place.

The 31-year-old Darvish had been showing signs of a turnaround, pitching six innings of two-hit ball April 20 at Cincinnati for his first win with his new team. He has allowed just two runs and five hits in his last 10 innings.

The DL move was made retroactive to Wednesday. The Cubs did not immediately announce a starter for Monday's series opener at Pittsburgh.

"When I talked to him in my office, it didn't sound awful," Maddon said, "but it did sound like something was there.

Rozner thinks it's the elbow (he's already had Tommy John) but the Cubs don't want to say yet. He says there's no such thing as triceps tendinitis and it really means rotator cuff or elbow problem.

Its going to be interesting to see just what contribution will look like. I've not heard any mention of the reoccurrence of tipping pitches; though, I doubt anyone will be stupid enough to say that during the season. The injuries really look bad when he already has a history of them, yet Theo/Jed were still willing to take the risk with the high contract and years.
