The Rosanna cover was enjoyable as well.

I’m not going to say it was great but it was enjoyable. But I like it when bands do things like this, no idea why. Just seems like harmless fun.

That dude definitely has a face for radio.
I've seen some 2000s--- live Toto vids because I kinda like the band, but that dude is just pure cheese.

Sounded like they slowed it down...probably because Porcaro's original drum part is too difficult for mortals to play at regular speed.

Who knew that Avery Schreiber was the lead singer for Toto?

I don't really get the point of either of those Toto covers. Weezer brings nothing new to the table. They play the songs the same way Tributosaurus would play them.

Agreed. They are both pedestrian at best.

I think I read somewhere that Porcaro was only 18 years old when he was the main session drummer on Katy Lied . That’s insane .

Weezer is basically a 90s cover band, so...

Fans were clamoring for them to cover Africa for a long while (I have no idea why, they just did), so to do a bit of a gag they released the Rosanna cover instead. Africa came a few days later.

That said, I also very much enjoy Weezer, so to each their own.

I have no problem with Weezer. I just don't need them to play suburban cover band versions of Toto songs.

Part of it is probably the simple joy of playing Toto. I wish I could!

I think Jim DeRogatis said this, but I agree: I can never tell if they are parodying something or not. It's not the talent, it's not even the music--it's the weird songwriting. I think they are exactly my age, so I should be getting it, but I just never got it.

Seems like they have some fans here, so allow me to shut the fuck up. I hate when someone shits on what you like.

Cuomo is a tough nut to crack. i stopped being hard on him years ago when i just accepted the Blue Period isn't returning. it has its moments, like about 70% of the Red Album, the White Album, parts of "Maladroit". But it's all hit or miss. and when it misses it misses by a mile. but when it hits, i still love it.

what you first mentioned is why i liked it. cuomo's covers are usually genuine loving tributes. they don't fuck with the song, they just try to play it as close as they can without losing the Weezer.

i have always thought of him as sincere; but the guy's on the spectrum and sometimes his sense of humor is just weird. also, sometimes it's completely vacant. there are songs like "where's my sex?" which is a clever thinly veiled little joke. then there's "my best friend" which feels like it was written by a 5 year old. when he loses his pretentiousness, and just has fun, that's when he's at his best.

Had no idea he was on the spectrum . . . but I have to agree that much of their stuff is hit or miss. Interesting....I'll have to read some more about him and give it a listen.

I meant to put a () with saying “so I believe” about that...just in interviews and knowing some people that include creative ones...he fits the definition.

Agreed. They are both pedestrian at best.

Is this the first time the three of us collectively agreed on something?

All of these are how I feel. They played the song......the same as it has been played for 35 years.
To me, that's not what (usually) makes a good "cover". That takes little to no effort for a skilled band.

However, I DO appreciate TM being able to include "Pedestrian at Best".

I never really "got" Weezer either, even though they should probably be in my wheelhouse, musically. I bought the Blue Album when it came out, sold it to Disc-Go-Round for beer money in college along with a stack of other garbage (and probably Garbage). Meh. Pinkerton was fine. Gave up after that.

I will admit that I always thought the lyrics were that there was "nothing a hundred men on Mars could ever do".

Which I always agreed with because they would be too far away.

I've heard this song about 300 times but I guess I've never actually "heard" it.

I just looked up the lyrics on this. This is batshit nonsense. I guess lyrics weren't their thing.
