My thoughts on Baez being a tool and a hypocrite were made last week when he couldn't handle a Redlegs pitcher striking him out.

And that has nothing to do with the situation at hand.

Seriously, Frank had a winning hand here with the illegal slide but he went way too hard on the ridiculous "if it were Contreras, you'd be going nuts" thing that is just so far from reality. What baseball fan gets the protective over a catcher getting taken out? No one, that's who.

Disagree. The fact that so many went hard defending Rizzo when he was very clearly in the wrong validates Frank's point. It's about blind homerism, not reality.

Also, the talk of "its an old school play, thats how players are taught, ten years ago there would be nothing wrong with that slide", etc is a straw man argument. As true as those statements might have been at one time, Rizzo's slide was absolutely in violation of the rules the way they are currently written. The umpires in the game were flat out wrong, which, unfortunately, happens in sports.

So you're either fine with your players willingly breaking the rules, or you're not. There isn't a middle ground. The Cubs manager, based on what he has said, is perfectly fine with his players breaking the rules of the game.

A lot of people seem to be having a hard time knowing that Frank got the better of them in this thread.

I'm fine with yesterdays takeout slide at 2nd (even though the runner slid past the bag in violation of the rules) and I'm fine with rizzos play. That's how I was taught to play the game too. If the umps got either call right and called the double play I guess I'd have to suck it up and accept it because of the letter of the law. That being said I'm sad that we are seeing this type of baseball fade away. I'm sad at the new ridiculous football rules too. It's unfortunate.
Was the play "dirty"? Dirty is different from a violation of the rules. I'd say no. Not dirty. That was the original question... is Rizzo dirty and still the answer is no.

Honestly, haven’t we learned by now that what used to be ok in pro sports has changed in the name of player protection? We learned it because of research into brain injuries and from seeing players get hurt needlessly on take out slides and collisions. It sucks that things had to change, but they changed for a reason.

When you look at a picture of Rizzo’s slide, what person would want a grown man sliding into his lower leg/knee while you’re planted looking the other way? I wish such a take out slide could be executed without the risk of serious injury so the game would be the same as what we grew up with. But it can’t. It is the same reason they don’t let defensive ends tackle pocket passers below the knees or offensive line men whip sawing defensive players legs.

Yup. Frank thoroughly destroyed Juiced.

and I gave my answer that MLB is doing spin control because of the attention it received. Tomorrow it could be MLB decides it is a legal play. Illegal/Legal is not the question. Is Rizzo a Dirty Player is the question and NO HE IS NOT.

Not my fault the people paid to decide what is illegal or legal where thrown under the bus by their bosses.

Complaining that Frank was ignoring the official MLB stance, and then ignoring the official MLB stance when it doesn't fit what you want the answer to be is a bad look.

I am absolutely fine with it, especially if they get away with it. Don't be a puss, Frank. Next thing you know, you'll be shopping for gender-neutral onsies with Rick.

More blind homerism from Juiced. SMH.

leash, my second post in this thread included this;
Frank Coztansa wrote:
And look Cubs fans, there is nothing wrong with saying this about the play; "Rizzo is not a dirty player, but he probably got away with one on that slide. It worked out for my Cubs and I'm happy about that, but a slide like that could hurt somebody"....because that is the truth.

The official stance was that it wasn't illegal. It was changed later by the suits in charge.

It's a bad look for MLB that their people don't know what is or isn't illegal. Not me.

It's not homerism if you believe it was not a dirty play. Barrett punching AJ was dirty. Utley's slide with spikes up that broke the guys leg is dirty. Rizzo trying to break up a double play is not... dirty.

I'm aware that MLB determined upon final review that you were wrong. Others thought it was obviously illegal from the start and they deserve credit while those who were rude to them deserve all the punishment that is allowed.

What you mean is kudos to Rizzo for sneaking through an underhanded play that scored 2 runs. As replay evolves it becomes harder and harder to find the evolved player that can find the inefficiencies within the rule book that can trick both the on the field crew, as well as the folks in NY.

To you Mr. Rizzo, we salute you.
