The San Francisco Warriors became the Golden State Warriors because the San Diego Rockets moved to Houston and they thought they could offload some home games to San Diego and make more money there than at the Cow Palace. But then they never really stuck to it and ended up moving into the Oakland Coliseum Arena full-time but kept the Golden State name. Then when the arena was gutted and rebuilt, they played a year at the Shark Tank in San Jose.

The jerseys that say "The Town" are a play on their "The City" throwbacks from the San Francisco Warriors, as a goodwill gesture to show that they're not completely abandoning Oakland for San Francisco (though with the way ticket prices have skyrocketed, they've been SF's team in all but name for years; who else could afford to go?) as they prepare to leave a 20-ish-year-old arena behind for a new one in San Francisco.

They only Id'd with San Fran shortly after they promised to build a stadium there. This occurred simultaneously around the time that the team got better and new ownership took over. They have never really rocked with San Fran. They were originally Philly's team and they weren't in San Fran that long. They have (since the move) always been Oakland's team. San Franciscans began gravitating after promise of a move and the team got better. They were the quintessential fair weather fans
