I guess Trump can always start a trade war to ruin this great economic run.

Getting short changed in trade is not the way for a country to want to get ahead. Canada is a perfect example. They protect their own products big time and they subsidize a number of their companies(see Toyota manufacturing plant) in order to keep employment number up). Trump is doing the right thing. Free trade is great but free trade is not free. There, right now, is a COST to it and that cost is arbitrary greater costs to American businesses wanting to do business in these countries. As the biggest consumer or the world's products, the US has a right to expect its products get treated fairly in return and that is not happening.

As for the 6.6 million job opening without people to fill them, the answer is not opening the borders and allowing a huge number of undocumented immigrant from El Salvador and Mexico as the Democrats want to have happen. We need to screen people not only for potential terrorists ties but also for their ability to contribute to this country. The world is changing and the US needs to change with what it is going to occur. Trump understands this.

Should've added to this on Friday, but the latest job numbers show unemployment has fallen to 3.9%. It hasn't been that low since the dot com boom. With the economy at full employment, it really underscores our need for more immigrants we are rapidly approaching a point where we do not have enough people in the workforce to meet demand.

I am sure there are plenty waiting to come the right way and do the jobs.

I am sure also. I am sure, for example that there are a lot of people in Asian and European countries who are skilled and talented who would love to immigrate to the US. Why is the only issue being raised regarding immigration is to allow south American people to come to this country, anyway?

Study economics and you would understand why. It's a growth engine for the economy, and one that is needed when faced with a declining birth rate and aging population.

Just look at what will happen in Japan over the next decade or two as that is your future if you do not address this.

The problem is not that we need more immigrants. It is that they are coming here and not assimilating.

That is certainly part of it. A lot of them refuse to learn English and resent when there are americans who do not know Spanish. However, we should only be bringing in people to immigrate also who have the talent and intelligence to add value to the country.

I think you are missing something. https://www.cnbc.com/2018/03/02/trump-t ... o-win.html

Donald Trump doesn't even understand trade deficits so I don't think I'd take that moron's word on this one

Hilarious. The guy is a lot smarter than you think he is. The previous presidents ignored harmful trade deficits. He isn't. He promised to do something about them. He is doing what he promised to do. Its funny how his haters in the US are throwing their hands in the air and running around like chickens without heads. Trump is the bully on the block. He knows it. Instead of trying to placate the rest of the world like Bush and Obama did, he is making the world placate the US. IT is a wonderful proposition. Want a shit sandwich? Go see Bush or Obama. I prefer Filets myself.

It's insane to think that we want to bring back steel production 40 years after the fact. It's something that should hopefully be done mostly by machines anyway. It's about as terrible as a job can get.

Ever work steel? I doubt it.

It will be interesting to see if anyone is willing to do this kind of hard work. I'm learning more and more every day just how soft our people are getting. Our kids... good lord the kids. They won't open the windows on a 75 degree day because of allergies. Can you imagine not going outside on a nice summer day?

I know. Fortunately my kids got to know their grandparents and learned their stories as well as mine. Kids have to work and they did. I am sure my new grandkids are going to be raised similarly. I laud what Trump is trying also to do with trying to make people work who can work yet are receiving money from the government not to work. As good as the economy is going, there still is going to have to be a big time reckoning coming up when the technology sector meets low skilled labor head on. Not enough is being said and done about that reality that is absolutely coming up.

It is absolutely true. If you take a look at particularly our schools, when parents bring in their kids and do not speak English, they get pissed if the clerical staff do not speak Spanish for starters. My wife worked in such a school and has had angry parents calling the school administration and wanting her fired and replaced by a Spanish speaking person. Also, many Spanish customers want their servers to speak Spanish and get pissed when they don't. Also, go sometime to a soccer game where the US plays a south American team or worse yet, Mexico. Most of the rowdy crowd is from the country playing the US and cheers against the US and for their "native" country. It is f ing awful out in California.

Yep. My emphasis in graduate school was Statistics and it served me very well. And now with the world turning more and more into expert systems, total quality management, predictive mathematics, etc. her future employment with a high salary and interesting job should be assured.

Hey Hawk. With that wondrous statistics degree how did you crunch the numbers and come to the conclusion the state of Texas is producing more oil than Saudi Arabia?

Limbaugh reported that on the radio Thursday morning. I heard it going to the golf course. If it was wrong, it was wrong. However, the point I made is valid namely that the United States has become the biggest producer of energy in the world and will be for years to come.

Actually, that's China.

Exactly, I think about this all the time. Not only do kids not want to learn how to fix things, they are terrified of chemicals and grease. Not that I give a shit, I'll never be out of a job.

Actually, the US has surpassed everyone in total energy production and is selling more and more energy and away from Russia and China. It also has expanded its military presence around the islands that China has decided to build for itself telling China that it will not allow China to interfere with the US and its allies operations in the far east. That numbers BTW for that chart are from 2013-14.

Below is a look at the leading countries based on total oil production in 2016, according to EIA data. Total oil production includes production of crude oil, lease condensate, unfinished oils, refined products obtained from the processing of crude oil, and natural gas plant liquids. It is expressed in barrels per day.
United States
The United States is the top oil-producing country in the world, with an average of 14.86 million b/d, which accounts for 15.3% of the world's production. This is down from 15.12 million b/d in 2015, but it was enough to land the United States in the No. 1 spot, which it has held for the past four years running. The United States overtook Russia in 2012 for the No. 2 spot, and it surpassed former leader Saudi Arabia in 2013 to become the world's top oil producer. Much of the increased U.S. production is attributable to fracking in the shale formations in Texas and North Dakota. The United States has been a net exporter – i.e., exports exceeded imports – of oil since early 2011.
Saudi Arabia

The US also leads in Wind Energy production for all of you green energy geeks in the world. And Texas does produce more oil now than Saudi Arabia. This while we haven't even touched Anwar's huge reserves and the shale production has been awesome for this country. The US is using energy as a big time trade advantage in the world.

There are a lot of kids who love to get fix things and engage in trades. I have a son who does just that and he will have a good job for his entire working life. Your comment is just not true.
