They have 5 of the top 100 picks:

Round 1, Pick 24 (No. 24 overall)

Round 2, Pick 62

Pick 77 (Compensation for Wade Davis, who signed with the Rockies. Colorado forfeited its second-round pick.)

Pick 78 (Compensation for Jake Arrieta, who signed with the Phillies. Philadelphia forfeited its third-round pick.)

Round 3, Pick 98

Once again gotta trust in Theo et al. Never heard of the guy and sounds like a utility infielder who will also learn OF. But we know nothing.

Bob Horner was a great player.

For a bit.

He was a Cub killer for a couple years, as I recall. But everyone was a cub killer back in those days.

Fangraphs dropped a future hit of 55 or higher on just five players in this draft.

Nico Hoerner was one of them.

I am also reading as a comp: Ian Kinsler.

Never played a day in the minors either. But yeah only had a 10 year career and only 218 homers.

I know nothing about any of the first round guys. But what I do know is that Theo & Co know college bats and if they want this kid then I trust it is a good pick.

Addy to Baltimore is even more possible now.

No it’s not, that’s a pipe dream.

Oh, our unproven first round pick is going to lead to Russell for Machado. Fucking Christ that’s dumb.

This looks like a project pick, but one with a lot of upside. 60/60 power/speed potential means he could be special.

Be patient with this one.

With the 62nd overall pick, #Cubs select Arizona high school OF Brennen Davis of Basha HS

To sum up the night
- very solid middle infielder
- high upside outfielder
- injury plagued outfielder with some high upside reports
- Fairly polished (I think) pitcher with good mix of pitches.

Which college bats have produced in the MLB to give you such confidence. Bryant was a no brainer pick. When the great Theo and Company have actually had to use their decision making ability on college bats, what have they produced that would instill absolute deference?

feel bad for the kid picked in the 3rd. if you're a pitcher and theo drafts you that's a kiss of death to your career.

Are you serious with this? Many days the Cubs lineup has 3 guys who were college bats taken by Theo. That is a pretty good string of success in the last few seasons.

I wouldn't know if anyone in this draft is any good, so I just sort of look at the rankings and scouting reports. Looking at MLB.com, the Cubs seem to keep drafting a bunch of unranked guys or guys ranked well below the pick number.

Rankings past like the 2nd round really mean nothing.

But look on the bright side, you know more than Keyser already
