Seems like a better Ichiro. .406 is solid.

Eloy, Rutherford and now Madrigal are all guys that are going to be every day regulars and they all have very good contact skills. Be shocked to see ant of them K over 15% after they've settled in. With them and Abreu the Sox are going to be putting massive pressure on opponent defenses. Going to be a much livlier offense with more balls in play and runners moving over. Collins and Moncada are going to be windfarms, Davidson too if he's still around, but it'll hardly be as bad as we've been used to

I'm a pretty big advocate of this strategy and I'm glad they have chosen to pursue it.

Nick Madrigal and Steele Walker are your Sox top 50 picks of 2018. At least they got some good names.

I am really interested in seeing how Collins translates to the MLB game.

If Keyser were running the draft we'd have a team full of losing pitchers with big "stuff" and a bunch of underwear models who couldn't get on base to save their lives.

The one thing SABRmetrics absolutely gets right is the fact that the most important aspect of the game is controlling the strikezone. This idea that you can take a guy with raw speed and huge strength and "teach" him how to hit a baseball and recognize the difference between a ball and a strike is pure insanity.

And we'd have infielders with good feet! Forget about how many throwing errors they have, if they can cut a rug on the dance floor that must make them great defenders!

Sure, scoff at Yolmer Sanchez, but there isn't one thing Tim Anderson does better on a baseball field than Sanchez. Anderson is a hope, a dream, a fantasy that more than likely will never come to fruition.

Anderson is probably a better base runner/stealer, but even that is debatable.

I hope Anderson fulfills the dream because I want my team to succeed. At this point, I have to agree that he will be what we hoped he would be.

No it isn't...unless it was Rick debating the point. Anderson also has more power.

I also think if you stuck Yolmer at SS every day you would notice the deficiencies of his defensive game.

Anderson is faster with better power. Anderson also walks more (which is crazy).

Keyser said the Sox drafted another Sanchez with Madrigal, the big difference is Madrigal has incredible plate discipline.

I'll grant that Anderson has slightly more power. I don't really care about stealing aa in most cases it should not occur at all.

The fact is that Sanchez had 3 times higher WAR last season and this year they are dead even despite Anderson having been handed an everyday spot.

Also, Anderson's drastic increase in walks is a good sign. Maybe he can be a guy who learns the strikezone, but if he is, he's an anomaly. I certainly don't want to be drafting guys hoping they can do something in the big leagues they haven't shown they can do at lower levels.

Anderson is very young in terms of baseball experience and has been asked to learn the second most difficult everyday defensive position while at the MLB level. They have put a lot on his plate. I would expect some inconsistency. You get glimpses.

Can you name some guys who "learned" to play defense in the big leagues? I can maybe think of a few guys who improved a little at third. I just don't think it's likely that Anderson is ever a guy you're happy to have at short. And you won't win anything with Anderson/Moncada up the middle.

That is Keyser's ( and/orKeith Law's) opinion, and it is a poor one.

Peter Gammons, last week on The Score, wrote:
There is little doubt in my mind that Madrigal is the best college player in the draft. If the White Sox get him, in my opinion, they are getting a star.
I'll take that and hope for the best.

Plenty of guys were notable for gaining sophistication with the position as they aged all the way up to players like Ripken.

I think that is what we are talking about rather than being physically better.

Well Anderson has already gone from literally never walking and striking out 30% of the time, to striking out just over 20% of the time and drawing a decent share of walks. So he is definitely capable of improvement.

JORR it's a true pleasure talking baseball with you because you know your stuff and see the big picture, but I have to disagree with you here. I was wrong about Anderson playing short, he doesn't have the arm. I think if they put him in center he'd do fine and could have an offensive profile similar to Mike Cameron. The big increase in his walks is really encouraging.

Here's my issue....why would the White Sox waste their time with Anderson at SS. Increase in walks is something I would have never bet on and it's encouraging, but him at SS is a waste of his and the White Sox time.

He can absolutely learn to play SS well. Whether he actually will accomplish that is unknown, right now it doesn't look good, but this season is already lost so they may as well give him every chance they can until Madrigal is ready to unseat him. Who else in the system can play SS?
Yolmer, but he's playing 3rd now and, honestly, at SS he's not much better than Anderson.
Leury, but he's hurt and hasn't played SS reguarly since 2015 (at Charlotte)
Danny Mendick and Eddy Alvarez are your starting SS in Bham and Charlotte, respectively.

So there's no other options right now. Might as well throw Anderson out there and see if reps improve him. Anyone who wants to try and trade for a major league quality SS who can play defense to improve things in this lost season is certifiably insane.
