Congratulations. You survived yet another mass shooting with nothing getting done by making a high school kid the bad guy!

There is always going to be an irrational idiot especially after they go through a tramatic event. Your glee in him ending any real discussion about solving the issue is tough to read though.

I'll still take David Hogg over the much more important people in the NRA who said the solution to guns in schools was to add significantly more guns to schools.

I'm not the one who put this kid in front of every CNN camera, put him on Bill Maher, etc. This kid basked in the glow of the TV lights and willfully made a complete ass out of himself. He's the only thing keeping the GOP from getting swept in the midterms.

Ok. Though so many of us are pretty stupid until we're, what, 22? 24?

I don't want to the Democrats to win either but I'm not going to celebrate that a high school (adult) went on camera too much and therefore any attempts to fix school shootings is gone.

Hes a high school graduate, a legal adult, and perfectly willing to enter the public political arena. Calling him a kid is not accurate. He doesn't identify as a kid.

He has allowed himself to be made the face of the movement so he will own the failure of that movement.

As for school shootings, we've gone over how just about every proposed regulation would not have stopped any of the school shootings in recent memory. Even your own argument that the evil AR-15 is what is enabling this went away when the Santa Fe shooter used a sawed off shotgun (already illegal) and a revolver (not even a semi-auto weapon). Heck, that argument was debunked 10 years ago at Virginia Tech where only a pistol was used for what is still the deadliest school shooting.

The only thing that could've stopped the shootings would've been had the law enforcement agencies actually done their job as laws preventing criminals from purchasing guns can only work if the potential purchaser has a criminal record.

I thought you were moving and couldn't talk much? I could use your help in the $0.04 thread.

I am ecstatic as well that the movement to reduce school massacres has failed. We won!

Suck it high school teenagers!

To any of you still advocating for some kind of reform, could I get some sort of response regarding the studies that show that school shootings have actually decreased since the 90's and that you're more likely to get struck by lightning? I really haven't ever seen anyone make a persuasive argument that gun violence is a big problem.

seeing as other advanced western nations have even lower rates of gun violence then improvement can be made.

will never happen but it's interesting to see MANY people upset over some teenagers whose goal is to reduce school gun violence. such an evil cause to partake in, y'know?

Is the anger at him because he is an affected young adult wanting change? Or is it anger at the methods he employs, the media pushing of him and the fact that he may not be an expert on the topic but is somehow being granted such status?

That doesn't answer the question. Why weren't people outraged in the '90's and 20xx's when school shootings were more common (but still less likely to happen than getting caught in a tractor PTO)?

Isn't all violent crime down since the 90s?

I say we still try to lessen it.

a reality tv actor won the presidency but having no expertise in any topic and constantly appearing in TV media.

seems kinda like a successful formula to get results in america these days...

That's not the point, though. The point is that people get outraged over school shootings when they happen and start screaming about gun control. This response is almost entirely driven by media sensationalism. People see kids getting hurt on TV, and of course it makes them emotional. It would for anyone. But the reality is that the city of Chicago ALONE has more shootings in a month than nationwide schools will have in an entire year. But for some reason, no one really cares or comments on that. The better argument for gun control isn't school shootings; it's random shootings. The odds that anyone here will ever die from a gun shot are low. The odds that a person will die from a school shooting are incredibly low. But everyone goes all apeshit over this stuff, and the face of the "movement" is some rich, white loudmouth from Florida.

Lastly, just saying we should "try to lessen it" completely ignores the fact that most of the solutions in terms of legislation are already on the books and the people clamoring for the legislation aren't even aware of it. It's nothing but empty platitudes over and over and over about a problem that doesn't really exist and likely couldn't be solved even if it did.

Unless I'm just not remembering, I don't recall having school walkouts across the country and surviving kids going on speaking tours.

Isn't all violent crime down since the 90s?

I say we still try to lessen it.

Well that's good. One less thing to worry about.

Many that is true, but an incomplete statement.
