It was. Very quiet and peaceful. I was rather awe-struck touring Omaha Beach and standing in German machine gun bunkers.

Impossible to imagine being on one of those boats approaching the beach knowing you'd be lucky to survive.

Christ--how do you even do that? How do you motivate yourself to move forward? Amazing.

Today we mark another milestone: the 74th anniversary of #DDay, the Allied invasion of Normandy. On June 6, 1944, more than 70,000 brave young Americans charged out of landing craft, jumped out of airplanes, and stormed into hell...

Trump is the asshole. Nearly 2000 Allied troops who weren't American died in the invasion. His tweet makes it sound like DDay was Americans only. And MANY of his supporters likely believe that.

My daughter who is in JROTC at her high school is over there right now. She was selected to go to participate in the memorial ceremonies. They took part in the parade in Sainte Mere Eglise and ceremonies at Omaha and Utah beaches. It has been quite an honor for her and an experience I hope she never forgets.

The President mentioned D-Day.

He didn't mention it fast enough for Hatchetman.

What's next? Poor Hatchet doesn't get a Birthday shout out?

C'mon. The Commander of Cheese tweets about 6 different conspiracy theories before noon, yet doesn't mention the greatest military anniversary in US history.

You really need to re-evaluate your thought processes.

A top State Department spokesperson referenced the D-Day invasion during World War II as an example of the United States’ strong ties to Germany.
The department has been under fire since U.S. Ambassador to Germany Rick Grenell told Breitbart News he wants to help empower far-right groups in Europe, sparking anger from the U.S. ally.
"We have a very strong relationship with the government of Germany," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said during a briefing Tuesday. "Looking back in the history books, today is the 71st anniversary of the speech that announced the Marshall Plan. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the D-Day invasion.”
Wednesday is the 74th anniversary of the allied invasion of northern France during World War II, a bloody day in which thousands of U.S. and British soldiers were killed while fighting German troops. The massive attack was considered a turning point in the allied effort to push back Nazi forces in Europe
.

President Chicken Hawk I'm sure approves.

But let me guess. This was another "joke". Like when Canadians were charged by Cheetolini for burning down the White House.

yes, without D-Day all of Germany undoubtedly would've been behind the Iron Curtain.

"how do you even do that? How do you motivate yourself to move forward?"

Training, brotherhood, and willingness to sacrifice your life for a common good.

And 10 grand in life insurance. $140,000 in today's money.

To be fair, they were British subjects and they were our enemy. Many Canucks take credit for burning down the White House as they were on the Brits side and were none too pleased we burned down Toronto.

Um,I would not rank D-Day the greatest military anniversary in American History.

June 6 1942. Midway

Dec 25 1777 Trenton NJ,without that victory the rebellion is done

July 3 1863 Gettysburg Pa

Those just off the top of my head

The main motivating point and all The former military guys here can attest is the fact you do not want to let the guys in yo r unit down.

The greatest military anniversary in the United States and the rest of the world world, except perhaps NZ and Aus, is 11/11. Its at least the most celebrated.

the broader population does not celebrate the battle of Midway. Sorry Chas. Perhaps the greatest victory in US naval history but nothing embodies the former ideals of America like D-Day.

My Dad's older cousin was on a landing craft that morning- they dropped the door and he was hit in the kneecap by a bullet- fell back on the boat and was taken to a hospital ship, never set foot in Europe.

Another older cousin was a tail gunner in a B-24, made it home from all of his missions.
