Getting short changed in trade is not the way for a country to want to get ahead. Canada is a perfect example. They protect their own products big time and they subsidize a number of their companies(see Toyota manufacturing plant) in order to keep employment number up). Trump is doing the right thing. Free trade is great but free trade is not free. There, right now, is a COST to it and that cost is arbitrary greater costs to American businesses wanting to do business in these countries. As the biggest consumer or the world's products, the US has a right to expect its products get treated fairly in return and that is not happening.

As for the 6.6 million job opening without people to fill them, the answer is not opening the borders and allowing a huge number of undocumented immigrant from El Salvador and Mexico as the Democrats want to have happen. We need to screen people not only for potential terrorists ties but also for their ability to contribute to this country. The world is changing and the US needs to change with what it is going to occur. Trump understands this.

I am sure also. I am sure, for example that there are a lot of people in Asian and European countries who are skilled and talented who would love to immigrate to the US. Why is the only issue being raised regarding immigration is to allow south American people to come to this country, anyway?

That is certainly part of it. A lot of them refuse to learn English and resent when there are americans who do not know Spanish. However, we should only be bringing in people to immigrate also who have the talent and intelligence to add value to the country.

I know. Fortunately my kids got to know their grandparents and learned their stories as well as mine. Kids have to work and they did. I am sure my new grandkids are going to be raised similarly. I laud what Trump is trying also to do with trying to make people work who can work yet are receiving money from the government not to work. As good as the economy is going, there still is going to have to be a big time reckoning coming up when the technology sector meets low skilled labor head on. Not enough is being said and done about that reality that is absolutely coming up.

It is absolutely true. If you take a look at particularly our schools, when parents bring in their kids and do not speak English,they get pissed if the clerical staff do not speak Spanish for starters. My wife worked in such a school and has had angry parents calling the school administration and wanting her fired and replaced by a Spanish speaking person. Also, many Spanish customers want their servers to speak Spanish and get pissed when they don't. Also, go sometime to a soccer game where the US plays a south American team or worse yet, Mexico. Most of the rowdy crowd is from the country playing the US and cheers against the US and for their "native" country. It is f ing awful out in California.

May have been said but degree chosen has a lot to do with it. My daughters Statistics degree has been great for her. She has a great job in Dearborn MI with Ford. My sons English degree has found him nothing.

Yep. My emphasis in graduate school was Statistics and it served me very well. And now with the world turning more and more into expert systems, total quality management, predictive mathematics, etc. her future employment with a high salary and interesting job should be assured.

Actually, the US has surpassed everyone in total energy production and is selling more and more energy and away from Russia and China. It also has expanded its military presence around the islands that China has decided to build for itself telling China that it will not allow China to interfere with the US and its allies operations in the far east. The US also leads in Wind Energy production for all of you green energy geeks in the world. And Texas does produce more oil now than Saudi Arabia. This while we haven't even touched Anwar's huge reserves and the shale production has been awesome for this country. The US is using energy as a big time trade advantage in the world.
