No, it had to be when it was, because once the Cubs start playing lots of day games (isn't April traditionally night-game-heavy?), there's no longer a ratings problem in afternoons, and you can't justify the change. Then you're stuck with Range Rover Radio until November.

Yep. The dead of the ratings year was the time.

The sticking point for Goff seems to be that, according to him, he's the "only" guy at the Score to have had this clause enforced.

He thinks he's been singled out.

didn't he mention that they asked him to do a weekend shift or something and he refused? for all we know they tried to keep him on the air here or there.

I do not dismiss the notion that he refused to do part time like Spiegs is doing to feed his kid and new wife.

It's also possible that Goff is misusing the word "void" in this context, either innocuously or purposefully.

goff went on what we can only imagine as leery's blow off podcast.

he complained about :

- Danny being the reason the show "failed" yet brought up how successful it was
- Terry lying about the show staying on 1 topic too long even though thats the consensus of how the show felt
- Decastro is racist and never told him things weren't good

Things he doesn't talk about

- Taking away fun content (TOB/WYC/FF/etc)
- complaining continually about people talking about their kids and then mentioning his kid every 5 minutes
- while social justice has its place in talk radio and even sports radio, you can't continually talk sports through the lens of social justice every day
- abandoning what made him popular with B&B listeners and instead parroting danny in being condescending and combative constantly with callers.

- about new job prospects

- basically waiting on chicago. the offers he said were piling up are not apparently
- has offers out of town but would have to leave his kid (sounds like a healthy relationship) and that being a father of a black male makes him a unique talent.

the vibe of the whole things sounds like a broken Goff. on one hand you kind of feel bad but then you remember how bullet proof he thought he was and how douchey he'd become to his detractors and you stop feeling bad.

But he still doesn't talk about any of the blame being on his shoulders. there didn't seem much talk about what he did wrong.

Also on the did not mention list : How he told listeners to kiss his ass and go find a different show if they didn’t like the show they were doing because we move souls and aren’t going to change .

Just listened while doing some mundane stuff.

Goff was not in a mind yet to listen to reality, not that Holmes would give it to him. I don't blame him. The man is clearly grieving and hasn't reached the proper stage yet. I feel bad for him. It sounded like he was choking back tears from beginning to end. He's despondent.

Who told Jason that he was fired for speaking about social issues too much? That seems to have crept into consciousness without ever being sourced. Here is my take as a guy who likes Jason's work: You were fired not for talking about Colin Kaepernick kneeling on Friday but for telling me you loathed talking to me on Bears Monday. That, right there, is as close as you can get to a sin for a sports talker in the city of Chicago. You and Bernstein were living on borrowed time with that act.

Jason clearly has a rift with Bernstein. He was throwing some veiled but strong accusations about his professionalism. He also insinuates he has held those thoughts for much longer than simply when they hosted together. You would think Jason hosted that show by himself from this discussion if you didn't know he was on with Bernstein.

Jason has a huge ego so I don't know if he has the ability to learn from this experience. I hope he does. The handful of sycophants who are propping him up on Twitter are doing him no favors.

I also smile when Holmes puts on the dashiki and kufi to talk about the struggle from the perspective of an affluent suburb kid with two professional parents who was educated at great schools and has never had a day of unemployment. I don't dismiss that he has had a black experience but he hasn't had THE BLACK EXPERIENCE and it reeks of pandering when he tries to over relate.

one more thing, it's pretty clear Holmes is smitten with Goff

He sits there like the Farley character from SNL who got to interview Paul Mc Cartney.

Pretty spot on there GD. Goff was not in a good state of mind at all. And he has not learned from the experiences at all, and if anything, is more emboldened to get out the SJW message. In thinking about it some more, I think this all ties back to when his kid was born. It seems to have been a professionally transformative moment for him. He kept talking about his kid's impact on his day to day existence and his worries for his future.

While kids impact all of us, I never went to work and did things differently once we had kids. My job remained my job, and the kids just created more financial and time pressures at home.

However, this podcast really highlights Holmes' talents. That is a great interview, not because of Goff but because of Holmes. I've said for a while that while he may not be the greatest entertainer, he is a fantastic technician of the craft. Listen to he and Jason. They have held many of the same job titles and duties in their careers. Only one sounds like a broadcaster. Now, on some level that doesn't matter as I'll take the entertainer to listen to every time. However, Jason took so much pride in talking about honing his craft. Holmes lives it.

Once a kid comes, the job takes on a completely different level of importance.

Technically, I think Holmes is the best at the station. It just sucks that he's also an overcompensating douchebag.

I wish Holmes had the care to tell him to grow up. You are almost 40 years old and have seen very talented sports talkers at the station crash and burn but you never understood it was a business. That reality should have hit 10 years ago.

He is a student of radio. How many times have the greats in this industry been fired. Stern, Dahl, even mfing Kathy all were told to hit the bricks by management while they were pulling great ratings because they were just not worth it any more to the organization.

We all know that his wife is a beard. It's like the episode in Mad Men where Sal invites Ken over to have dinner with him and his wife.

heck, I'm just surprised that Goff hasn't outed Larry yet

He doesn't have any kids, but I have no reason to believe JORR is gay.

I hate to keep harping on the vehicle, but Jason wasn't 1st round draft choice with a bonus. You don't buy a new car, let alone a Range Rover at the beginning of a new contract that has a 30 day out.

Regarding the 30 day out...we used to use them with 1099 sales people all the time. Was Jason a 1099?

To be fair, most of us are at will employees that could lose our jobs today. I wouldn't begrudge a guy for buying a car or a home after starting a new job. He was not a 1099, W-2 in that role for sure.

It really is a damn shame that JORR doesn’t have a little JORRJr. To think that a legacy like that will just fade away like so many dandelions gone to seed.

The scenarios I can think of regarding Goff's contract out:

- Goff knew about the structured exit for CBS/Entercom in the contract, but was so desperate to get back on terrestrial radio that he signed anyway and was confident that he'd be a big enough star that he'd never have to worry about that path of exile, but is now using the contract stipulation to paint himself as the victim and to excuse his poor performance.

- Goff didn't know about the out for CBS/Entercom—whether because his representation didn't catch it or he didn't read it himself all the way through—and he was truly blindsided by their contractual ability.

- Regardless of whether he knew about the possible contractual power of his employer, this particular stipulation in the contract is void, and Goff should sue.

Yup. There was a certain excitement level in his voice, like he had snagged the most exclusive interview of the year. It was creepy.

Goff was handed one of the best sports media jobs in Chicago, and he blew it. Long winded Rongey and Bernstein baitor Abbaticola were passed over again and again and moved on to lesser markets or insignificant podcasts. Nobody forced Goff to take the insane path he took during b & g. He made it unlistenable. Bernstein knows when to put the brakes on his sjw bs , Goff didn't. Jimmy Decastro saved the score from certain freefall. The new knuckleheads at least are listenable for a little while but Goff was an immediate channel changer up the dial. It's time for Goff to ride off in the sunset in his Rover. It might be saber metrics slop, catering to the Cubs, but at least it's sports and not Goff bs.

One of the very strange things about the Goff sycophants on Twitter and Facebook who are boycotting the Score is that they decry the new direction of the station by saying "this was never what the Score was all about." Really? When Mike North was going on about steak and blowjobs or having Fred Huebner read rap lyrics as stiltedly as possible, was that what the Score was all about? Was Murph's hokey sound-effect-laden show what the Score was all about? Laurence Holmes lusting over backup traffic reporters at channel 5, Doug and OB completely losing their shit over every Bears loss, Les telling stories that may have never happened, were those what the Score was about? The Score has never really been "about" anything, but if it can be said to have any overarching mission statement, I guess it would be a place for fans to call in and talk about sports. I wonder if the only Score these people know is the three years where Jason was a daily host. If anything isn't "what the Score is all about," it's telling callers not to come back.
