The beginning of the show is the great song but also a panoramic view of the now "NEW" 'OLD CHICAGO'. (OLD Chicago when I grew up use to mean Al Capone times).

Chicago in the 1970s. One of the worst decades for this country. And a very dangerous time in Chicago. Crime everywhere, no rule of law, and just a general loss of confidence in Americans after the turbulent 1960s.

I can go on and on but looking at the show now there's something sweet and special about it. I liked the show when it was on as it was probably the only version of black America we got back then. But I really loved watching it tonight. It was just a different America back then. Even in those though times, watching it now makes me proud of all of our people in our beautiful country.

Thelma was (and still is) hot.

For you youngsters out there, one of the 1st malls with an indoor amusement park. Also, the great Mod band "The Jam" once played there. It didn't last long and certainly wasn't helped by the fact that it only had 1 entrance...stores located in the back were like a mile away.

I remember thinking that it took forever to get there, that it was a long ass walk past empty storefronts to get to the amusement park, but when you got close you could smell the electricity burning/popping. And then it was worth it.

They pretty much come on in blocks of about 10 in a row on Friday nights and Saturdays on TV One. I know because the GF watches every one faithfully as if she hasn't seen them several times before.

They do the same thing with Sanford and Son, The Cosby Show, and The Jeffersons. Sometimes they may throw a block of Living Single in there.

reruns been playing forever. they had the honeymooners back in the late 70s and all throughout the 80s on WGN and 32.
