Just listened while doing some mundane stuff.
Goff was not in a mind yet to listen to reality, not that Holmes would give it to him. I don't blame him. The man is clearly grieving and hasn't reached the proper stage yet. I feel bad for him. It sounded like he was choking back tears from beginning to end. He's despondent.
Who told Jason that he was fired for speaking about social issues too much? That seems to have crept into consciousness without ever being sourced. Here is my take as a guy who likes Jason's work: You were fired not for talking about Colin Kaepernick kneeling on Friday but for telling me you loathed talking to me on Bears Monday. That, right there, is as close as you can get to a sin for a sports talker in the city of Chicago. You and Bernstein were living on borrowed time with that act.
Jason clearly has a rift with Bernstein. He was throwing some veiled but strong accusations about his professionalism. He also insinuates he has held those thoughts for much longer than simply when they hosted together. You would think Jason hosted that show by himself from this discussion if you didn't know he was on with Bernstein.
Jason has a huge ego so I don't know if he has the ability to learn from this experience. I hope he does. The handful of sycophants who are propping him up on Twitter are doing him no favors.
I also smile when Holmes puts on the dashiki and kufi to talk about the struggle from the perspective of an affluent suburb kid with two professional parents who was educated at great schools and has never had a day of unemployment. I don't dismiss that he has had a black experience but he hasn't had THE BLACK EXPERIENCE and it reeks of pandering when he tries to over relate.
Nice analysis, GD. Very well said and spot on.
Ya know, I know Goff hates us. But if he would listen, the advice we give him is far better than the advice he gets from his SCORE friends. Especially Larry. All they tell him is that he's great. He doesn't need to hear that. Good friends don't tell you that all the time.
Like you said, GD, Goff has an ego the size of Spiegel. And he's proud and stubborn. So he won't listen to anybody.
