the guy is tearing it up probly more than Jed Hoyer ever could have envisioned.

The Yankees are calling that trade a heist, yet the cubs are probably the only team that could give away Castro and Torres for basically nothing and not regret it one bit.

They won a WS off that trade, as much as I HATE the Cubs it is no heist.

A World Series is not nothing. In fact, it is everything. On a very real level, every trade or subsequently bad contract that lead to the championship is justified.

That's right. The Lou Brock trade was just laying the groundwork for 2016.

Your best Cubs post ever. Exactly right.

The league will also make an adjustment back to Torres. I don't see him maintaining this pace.

Good player for sure but way to early to say he is elite.

GD has been banging this point for years.

Elmhurst Steve is a big proponent of the theory that it was a bad trade. GD has been wallpapering him since, well you known since when.

Yes, I HATED the trade when it was made and hate it more now. I knew what kind of player Torres was going to be and said HE should be the SS of the team long term, rather than Addison Russell. I was right. Rather than trading for Chapman, they should have picked up Jonathon Papelbon, who had been outstanding in 2016, prior to having it out with Bryce Harper, over his failure to hustle out a ground ball he hit. They could have gotten Papelbon for a low level prospect and kept Torres. Then, they could have traded Russell for a starting pitcher. It was a stupid deal, I don't buy that they couldn't have won it without Chapman. There were others they could have gotten that wouldn't have required them to trade away such an exceptional talent.

Outstanding? Paplebon had a 4+ ERA, far from outstanding. He was cut and the rest of MLB thought so much of him that, yep, you guess it, NOBODY signed him. Yet he was your solution for a prime time closer to ride to the World Series.

Great trade. Put Torres in the hall of fame. Still a great trade.

you can watch him firsthand on MLB-TV right now vs. Rays.

He just got another RBI on a double.

They won their first World Series in 108 years in part because of that trade. Who fucking cares what he does?

I do.

Once a Cub, always a Cub.

If youre from Chicago you should know that we follow our own wherever they go, good or bad.

They are like our kids.

Fuck, we followed Boobby Hill into his eventual submission into retirement.

Should have just signed Jeff Reardon, I’m sure he would have slammed the door just as effectively as Chapman did in 2016.

Called it
https://nypost.com/2018/08/05/gleyber-t ... adversity/
Quote:
And among the culprits has been Torres, who has not been nearly as productive since missing three weeks with a strained hip last month.

In 38 plate appearances over 10 games, he’s 6-for-33 with three extra-base hits and 11 strikeouts.

It’s a far different result than he had for much of his first two-plus months in the majors.

After returning from the disabled list, the 21-year-old has shown some flaws, both in the field and at the plate.

If that's the case, I'm glad we put Quintana up for adoption.

Papelbon was money in 2016 before the blowup with Bryce Harper. Was he as good as Chapman, probably not, but he was a legit closer and would not have required the Cubs to give up anything more than a low level prospect. No way would I have given up Torres.
