 In other words, the number of runs allowed by guy(s) wearing different uniforms in the same games that a given starting pitcher pitches? A number that is often smaller than the number allowed by the Great Jose Quintana.

Put another way, Jose Quintana has been notorious for pitching worse than the guys he faces.

Too bad the "he plays on a crap team" excuse no longer exists. Same as he ever was.

Sad to see White Fox fans posting in the Q thread when they have "loads of talent" to watch on the South Side.

He pitched a good game. LOL 2 hits in 5 innings. You act like he gave up a couple runs before he was pulled. This would be considered a Cy Young outing on the south side.

Uh, no it wouldn't. When you can barely get through five innings, that's on you. And don't try to make this shit some Sox/Cubs argument with me. My criticisms of Jose Quintana predate him wearing a Cub uniform.

There is a discussion that is starting to occur though, regarding the re-pricing of starting pitchers. If a guy is only going to give you five innings, how can he be paid as much as guys got when they went seven or eight (percentage wise)? Some of that money has to be redistributed to the guys who are covering the other half of the game.

But those two runs weren't Q's fault! The bullpen gave up the hits to allow those runners to score!

And the Cubs didn't score anyway so its just more bad run support for poor, unlucky Quintana!

In Quintana's last 22.2 innings, only 2 runs have scored against him while he was pitching.

In that same time period, he had 5 runners on when he exited. 100% of those scored.

This is very true. Jorr has been consistent in his criticism of Q. There are no rose color Sox glasses going on with him in this discussion.

So unlucky. Not only does the offense have it out for him, but the bullpen has it out for him as well!

The Cubs have a terrible bullpen. They probably won't make the playoffs.

That tends to happen when you struggle to get through 5 IP

Please explain this. What tends to happen?

Do more inherited runners tend to score in the 5th inning versus the 4th or 6th or 7th?

Anthony Bass comes in to pitch in the 5th. Anthony who?

He didn't give up the two runs, you fuck. The bullpen did. Blame goes to Maddon for pulling him early.

AND if you would stop being an asshole for five minutes, you would see it was a snub to the Gio Cy Young prediction thread.

Or pitch better against a weaker offense than the guy he is facing who is pitching against a stronger one. What you're really describing is a pitcher who simply isn't as good as the pitchers he faces, right?

No, you're making it too difficult. The team you pitch for doesn't score, then you throw a shutout. Not that much to ask.

Maddon pulling him probably prevented him from giving up 5. Wasn’t he at like 97 pitches when he pulled him?

I still really like Quintana, but he definitely became less effective after 2016.

I think the best quality of a pitcher is: Did he keep us in the game? Q mighta gave up three when the other team scored two, but Q kept the Sox in the majority of the games he started. When he was in the # 2 spot, he often faced off against a quality pitcher.

He was good.

Seems less effective now.

8 of 11 bequeathed runners scored after Quintana has left in the middle of an inning this season. That is an unsustainable percentage. 32.5% is lgavg. Cubs team average in 2018 is 28.9%.

Quintana has been good this season. He was good for the Cubs last season. He is a good pitcher. He isn't an ace.

If he was as good as you claim, he would get further along than the 5th inning and/or finish the inning he starts so the pen can start a clean inning.

You may not know this, but Quintana does not get to choose when Joe Maddon lifts him.

Quintana is throwing the least amount of pitches per start than ever before in his career.

Let him pitch through it.

You clearly don't understand this, but if there was two outs and nobody on base, the manager is less likely to lift him.
